What is the highest TC you've heard of at FAANG?
Any good Pilates place in DC?
OP, I think you seem to have a sense of entitlement!
Our own country (India), has a strong stance against foreign immigrants (read Bangladesh, Myanmar, etc), hell even our cities have issues with migration from other cities (read Mumbai, Banglore, Delhi) etc.
You should be grateful that your company has hired you, despite your status as a 'foreign alien!’
Stop cribbing about everything!
I second you P1.
We Indians tend to forget that h1b is a non immigrant visa. OP: nobody is forcing us to pay taxes - we are here by choice. You knew what you were getting into when you got the visa stamped.
Like p1 said, stop cribbing about everything. If you really are a skilled worker, you will find certainly find an employer on this planet earth.
Here’s the thing...they sponsor your visa ..you are IF the company needs you and if it’s in national interest. So don’t be ridiculous, by comparing your visa status with racial, sexual and ethic equality. They are not hiring you because you are from the subcontinent, they are not hiring you because they don’t want to sponsor your visa.
^^ is that not what you said in your original post ? That they are asking for h1b details at the time of application..!! Dude, equality that this country talks about is, they don’t want to discriminate people of their country to give an opportunity. You are non immigrant here, and still a citizen of India, it is Indian govt responsibility (to some level) that they give you right opportunities for you to succeed. Whaat have you done do to this country (apart from paying some taxes) to be treated like an American ? Btw, are you not getting the benefits for your taxes (infrastructure, police, free education for kids although) Can you even recognize American anthem.. ? you better think through this beyond your selfish reasons..
I understand the frustration , as I’m in the same boat. But as many pointed out above, I don’t have any delusions about my legal status here either. You should make a case for how important you are for the firm and that it’s in their best interest to hire you ...as the visa is literally called ‘ non immigrant specialty occupation’ . Believe it or not, but between stories of visa rejections , thousands are still getting approved
EEO does not protect legal status that’s why... smh
What can you do about it? EEO kicks in only on non nationality criteria!
Technically we can’t do anything. It’s a foreign nation which brags about equality
And that’s what politics is, find loopholes in the system and use it for own advantage
I don’t understand why you bring India here. I am talking about where I live an pay taxes
I certainly think the US immigration laws could be better, but to equate visa status with racial and gender equality is ridiculous. If you are being discriminated against because you are an Indian - that is actionable. But to say that companies should be required to file your visa for equal opportunity is unfair.
So in that case the employers should say h1b candidates should not apply. And guys try to see things beyond rule books.
P4 why are you getting so emotional dude? Most of the people pay tax here and the citizens have additional benefits. I don’t disagree with that, since it’s their right. But you know what there are also people here who don’t pay taxes and still enjoy the same benefits and even operate the nation. And @ ey1 I agree with you.
