If someone has already recovered from covid, and the vaccine doesn’t prevent you from getting covid, and you still have to wear a mask, what is the incentive to try and convince them to get the vax?

The vaccine prevents most people from getting covid (even the delta variant), and protects almost everyone from an infection that requires hospitalization. Mostly we’re talking probabilities here, and the more people who are vaccinated, the less easy it will be to transmit. It’s not a binary works/doesn’t work proposition. The reason we’re being told to mask up again is that so many of the people who aren’t getting vaccinated also haven’t been wearing masks or doing anything to mitigate transmission, and they’ve been spreading the delta variant at an alarming speed. I don’t know why the CDC thought removing mask mandates would act as an incentive to vaccination for people who were being selfish the whole time anyway, but here we are. The honor system clearly didn’t work, which was easily foreseeable.

There’s others, ASM1. Vioxx, Fen-Phen, and thalidomide come to mind. Personally I did take ranitidine for a while for my GERD and it is upsetting to know that I could someday develop cancer because of it.

Vaccine does prevent you from getting Covid, it’s 95% effective. That means that 95 out of 100 times you come across someone with Covid, you will not get it. Those are some pretty good odds. Plus natural immunity from a previous Covid infection only lasts 3 months and it’s only for the variant of Covid you were infected with. After the 3 months, you are a sitting duck for all variants of Covid. Whereas, the vaccine protects you 95% against all Covid variants and even if you were among the 5% you got a Covid infection after vaccination, you will most likely not have symptoms at all or very mild ones.

If people were really concerned about spreading the virus and delta variant the southern border would be closed. Makes no sense why we need mandates when people from other countries are crossing over without being vaccinated.

like

Also take into account that a decent percentage of the people vaccinated in those southern border counties are actually people from Mexico who have flown to Texas to get the vaccine😂😂

Okay, I have the authority to weigh in this one. I got covid before/between/after the two shots. 😂 Ik I’m lucky like that lmao (but the only place I go is the gym everyday so fml.) I can certainly testify that the symptoms got way less significant after the vac. Still uncomfortable but way better😅 so go get it

like

80% of covid cases without a vaccine are mild or asymptotic. Your post makes no sense.

The vaccine does still protect you from getting covid, it’s just not 100% effective.

like

Yes, it does. It reduces your chances of catching it, significantly.

I suppose the only possible incentive is if our government or businesses start requiring proof of vaccination to enter premises, travel, etc. People will reach their breaking point if they are completely restricted and can’t live their “normal” lives. Until then, there’s no incentive at all.

like

There is none

like

Yo bro, 100 bucks for a peanut maker like me is enough to motivate me to get the vac again 🤣

In addition to all the reasons above, you’d also have a much lower chance of passing it to someone who won’t recover from it.

Quick update for those who might be curious about the situation in my school and our lack of COVID precautions. I often comment on here about how my school stayed in person all year last year with almost no difference from a normal year. No mask mandate, no teachers or staff masking. 10% or less of students masking. Very few vaccinated here. Results: we have no students, staff, or family members in the hospital. Very few cases either. Two months of this now.

So my 18yo daughter who just started college texted me that she wants to do solo Europe travel in December and mom (my ex wife approved it). My daughter has traveled extensively in the US and abroad with me. However, she has never traveled even to a neighboring town in the US solo and is just learning what it means to live by herself as a freshman. I'm very concerned for her safety but if I put my foot down, my daughter will detest me. How do other parents in this bowl see the situation?

16 weeks and so worried all of the stress I’m under is going to hurt the baby. Between work, my own scary (non-pregnancy) health stuff, the pandemic, my mom (who is a widow and lives alone, basically isolated by choice due to covid) is having health issues, and pressures to keep billable hours up, I’ve been having complete breakdowns. Today I spent almost the entire day crying and now have to make up the billable time this weekend. I really worry abt what effect this will have on the babe.

HR professionals- are you requiring a negative test before any employees return to work after COVID? Some had very mild symptoms and one was asymptomatic. I find that single male friends of friends are generally very eager when we first met or were introduced (through events, common friends’ parties). I got invited to their hangout bunch / house parties (pre-covid), but the moment we established i have no romantic interest and only friendships, they disappeared and we become barely acquaintance. I genuinely want to keep them in my life as friends. Why is this the case?

When NY was the epicenter for COVID-19 the rest of America shunned us and gave drivers a hard time in other states if our license plate was from NY. Now that NY actually flattened/reduced the curve, while the other states are a bumbling mess, can our governor Cuomo set a ban on all travelers coming in from other states? I would suggest a 14 day quarantine on all folks from outer states and a 30 day one for those from hot spot disaster states.

I work 8+ hour shifts in the office as we are an essential business where masks are required at all times. Has anyone else had the experience of wearing a good mask at work and getting excruciating headaches at work that last for a few hours after work? I've already had an isolation period so it's not Covid, but I'm thinking it might be the higher levels of carbon monoxide, as I've tried wearing a different mask and did not have the same problem.
