If the next administration makes it easier for high skilled immigrants to work in the US, do you expect SWE and tech comp packages to drop a ton due to increased supply of labor?

Probably not across the board, just yours I think. Your SO will most likely leave you for a Bangladeshi MLOps engineer as well.

No because most large tech companies pay H1B the same (sometimes more due to visa sponsorship costs) as non-sponsored employees

like

Not in general, visas are not often used as a cost cutting measure. They help cover the gap in skills for the US.

like

Well that's an overly broad statement. While I agree there are plenty of cases where visas are used to address the skill gap in the US, there are also plenty of firms that take advantage if these visas to have lower cost labor.

Rules will need to be changed by congress , not the president. This administration has made it tough , but the core issues have existed for decades. SWE salaries have only gone up. If they make it tough, those jobs will go offshore.

No - nearly half of the Fortune 500 was founded by immigrants. Admitting more highly skilled immigrants is a net job creator Also, no one wants to be paid less than they’re worth. Highly skilled people have options. They’re not going to take a job where they’re being paid less than they’re peers regardless of immigration status

Question for sisters from a brother: when married or if you’re already married, do you plan to contribute financially for big things like mortgage? I’d never ask my future wife to contribute but if she worked and made a good salary I’d appreciate a more equal approach when it comes to paying off our house. This is only for the peace of mind it would give us. Also wouldn’t make sense if my wife was in a time consuming high stress career but not contributing in the home or financially. Make sense?

I am facing one of the most wild shifts in mindset ever — i always thought i wanted to be this super accomplished career driven woman, but all i care about these days is making enough money to buy more real estate and retire asap. Can someone please tell me i’m not going crazy :( this duality is weird to deal with.

Given all the recent buzz about expected large raises around the big 4, I’d like to level set on the average salary for a 4th/5th year female senior manager in federal tax ( credits & methods group) in the Midwest - Chicago/Minneapolis/Detroit market. Anyone willing to share a range if they work in a similar area of tax / similar level? I recognize all groups vary greatly in salary expectations, so looking for input specific to my area. Current expectations set at 140-160k. Reasonable?

Are there women here that have a significantly larger income than their male partner/ spouse? My husband used to make a little more money 10 years ago when we first met (when we were both making under 60k). Then I started climbing a fast track career ladder and now make a total comp of close to 300k and he is still under 80k... (which is totally fine with me btw). But I have noticed that this has caused a lot of serious issues for our relationship. any advice?
