Surprised by these comments, honestly I always unintentionally read “partner” as code for being homosexual.. I think SO is better in a work context, otherwise boyfriend
I used to have that same perception Mck1 but heard it enough times that I’ve gotten totally used to it. I usually use partner myself now.
Depends on the amount of time we’ve been together and who’s the audience - boyfriend if it’s colleagues, partner if it’s clients. Client already thinks I’m young, so using boyfriend just seems to make me seem even younger. This is for someone I’ve been dating for 5+ years so it’s not like we’re not committed to each other anyway.
Same situation here! Glad I’m not the only one who switches to “partner” for the client 😂
Rising Star
I use partner across the board. It's gender-neutral, and I don't like using girlfriend/boyfriend since it makes me seem younger.
Exactly! I do the same thing.
I use partner because saying I have a boyfriend makes me sound immature somehow
“Friend”
Seems like a new term should be developed for those who aren’t legally married but are in every way “married” and committed to each other.
SO
I end up just using his name. I struggle with « boyfriend » because it makes me sounds young. And can’t use « partner » with colleagues because it creates confusion with the case/firm’s partners. Using his name has worked quite well. Interestingly, my colleagues have also started calling him by his name too!
The guy I’m seeing lol he won’t put an label on me so I’m not giving him one
