Also, this has nothing to do with creativity. This is the economy.

you would think the best agency in the world that is independent and doesn’t need to meet short term public market numbers would be able to handle it though? especially when some of their clients have grown during this period. you make it sound like good creative had no correlation with biz outcome

Being arguably the best creative agency in the world doesn't mean they're the most immune to layoffs. A) They turn away more business than the average agency. That's why they get to make the best creative work, no wasting time on clients that won't let them make Weiden-level work. Many other agencies take on any business that comes to them. Makes them more financially stable, but less of a creative wonderland. B) If you believe their BLM response, they're now turning away more business than ever. "It's not a value until it loses you money" C) Many clients are going to struggle right now (due to social distancing and unemployed consumers) regardless of how amazing the creative is. Maybe Weiden had a handful of retail clients, for example. Weiden-level creative won't solve their problems. D) Weiden has incredible leadership at the top and they can't just cut the salaries of their premier talent to save low level jobs because the premier talent may leave and start their own shop

Our leadership started taking pay cuts back in March in an attempt to avoid these layoffs. Truth is Covid crushed the economy and isn’t going away anytime soon. No one is immune.

Why though? I could be wrong but outside of the US they might not be as solid, financially speaking, as POR/NYC. But I could be wrong.

Keep in mind, that number is low. When CPB said it laid off 8% of staff, half of the office had disappeared.

It’s more than 11%. Don’t know why they’re making it look lower than it is.

It’s a figure of speech, 11% is like volume 11. It means a lot. More than usual.

I've worked from home since March of 2020. I am nervous to go back to the office. I know it will be an adjustment to get to a hybrid schedule. But... I'm also really relieved. I think that WFH has negatively impacted my marriage. I know things won't go immediately back to where they were pre-Covid. And I'm nervous about not seeing my toddler as much and how my dogs will do. But I'm excited for this new chapter.

Just accepted an offer from a former client at an exciting company - Joining the corporate strategy team after 5 years in consulting post mba. I doubled my comp in cash before equity - which is flattering / exciting - but also a lot of pressure … a bit worried they expect me to come in and be a wizard. Any tips / advice?

Ever heard “omg how are you single, you are fit, handsome and successful”. Gets on my nerves every time. I would like to be in a relationship but dating as a gay man is wack. All about sex, and the times I’ve caught feelings for a guy it’s not been “exciting” for him anymore as the “chase” is over. Apparently being available is a turnoff. And the comment “come on, you can get whom ever you want”..........

I’m back to having no billable work again. My department almost completely dried up when covid started, so I’ve been relying on work from other busy departments at my firm to keep me busy since March. I feel like I start a new job every couple of weeks and am constantly begging for work. I’m just exhausted. Can anyone else relate?

How quiet is your home office environment? I am in a corporate practice and need quietness to read documents. I live in a courtyard facing apartment. Some people don’t mind noise but I constantly hear street noise, noise in the hallways and there are college students that live in the building. I complain about the noise all the time but my wife thinks I’m being unreasonable.
