Ideally you aren’t a Cognizant employee until you have joined on the first day & marked your attendance with the Cognizant Onboarding Coordinator. If not done, CTS mark you as absent & try for another joining date else mark you as absconded.
Stating this, in case you have a better offer (assuming financially) & you are inclined towards that company, then do not start with the onboarding formalities at all & do not respond to any email being received from CTS. HR or Onboarding team may then contact you to check on your status, which is when you can inform about your decision to join or not join.
You can also try for a counter from CTS in that case, if your motive is financial growth at this point of time.

Mate - now listen what happened with me :
I was hired got offer letter, done with on boarding & pre joining formalities.
Now come the bgv part. > my whole docs were real but got to know from my recruiter after alot of regressive & recursive follow ups she told me that some one from CTS will call me. And then after 1.5 months someone called me and said " YOUR Candidature has been stopped.
Me- why?
She - some xyz reason .
Me - Seriously shocked as I blindly trust them nd the reason xyz was absolutely rubbish and dumb ( can't share here,
Note - my docs & offer letter received and after thing was proper).
Now which employee who I m.. The one who didn't even get joining pass so how I could the employee of CTS as you mentioned that one become.
So folks please dnt considered what above is written by CTS guy. I frankly say to you just go with on boarding process either you want to join or not also try other side also for jobs.
Note : that guy is CTS might be some recruiter or some else.
To the CTS 1 mate - Please dnt get offend from my any words it has nothing much to do with you. May be that's wht you may as similarly I shared wht happened with my case. 🙂
