Nothing formal here!
We have see people saying this a lot that "Follow your passion",what should we do if we donot have any?
Dont feel good in corporate, dont know what my passion is, what makes me happy,
growing up in a middle class family and being the elder child, I believe only responsibilities are our passion,
In mid 20s , having no idea of what to do with future, how we landed up here where we are at present, and if not this, what are we going to do in future,
Life is hard

Because stupid ass PowerPoint slide decks created by 22 year olds don’t solve real problems and that’s 90% of what consultants actually produce.

Pen’s mightier than sword, and PowerPoints are… forget it

Those aren’t complex problems. They’re actually quite simple, and the answers are obvious.
The issue is that there is no political will solve them.
Rising Star
The solutions to the problems aren’t so complicated as the collective will to solve them

All I know is I spend my first two years in audit and I was considered an “in-charge” of audits of huge companies. I was 23, and usually hungover. Got excellent reviews and I had a very limited understanding of what I was doing in retrospect. No one reviewed what I gave them. They just signed it and that scares me.
Because there’s no money in it.
You could volunteer your time with a local nonprofit and offer them free services. But how likely are you going to do that with no pay?
Yes. It is.
So if you’re not making impact in your paid job, go volunteer your time and do something about it
I agree, consulting is hardly about solving real complex problems. Mostly it is just outsourced contracting
SA1, as someone who's moved here from south asia myself, I disagree. Firstly they're unacceptable wages in an American/western standard, but we need to think in a relative scale. Working for a big4 service center in south asia, you're likely making more than the average person with similar qualifications, that's how they get some great talent. Secondly, it does create opportunities that otherwise wouldn't be there. I know plenty of people who work for big4 and if they decided to move out, they'd be loosing on great experience (relative).

Who said we aren’t?
Environmental consulting, specifically around decarbonization is a field pretty much every major consulting firm and thousands of boutiques are working in. Will it solve climate change? Probably not but it is getting paid to try to solve parts of the problem
Projects exist for these kinds of things. Government consulting is less sexy but ironically a lot of very interesting and “important” projects there.
“If we’re so smart..” Well that’s your problem right there.
Love this question.
Crazy how the answer is that there’s no money in solving these problems.
There are smart problem solvers at these firms. And these people should be well compensated to help solve those huge problems. Guess governments and companies won’t put their money into issues they claim to worry about. It’s all posturing
EYP 1, good point, don’t want to spark the wrong idea 😂
The solutions aren’t hard. It’s the implementation that is.
Maybe everyone sitting on the bench can put their heads together and essentially get paid to solve these world problems.
There are absolutely consulting firms that do this type of work. You should look into B Corporations. Also, many national level nonprofits essentially operate at consultants but the profits are reinvested back into the org instead of distributed to shareholders.
There are plenty of organizations that focus on these types of problems. RAND for example - other think tanks as well.
For most management consulting firms, analyzing these types of problems is not a core competency.
Pssst... you were sold a lie. You are not solving any problems, you are just helping partners become rich.
Why would they pay anyone to work on projects that don’t generate them a profit
Good luck lol
Because the solution is v hard
There are literally consultants that do all of this. But the work is generally done though nonprofits. Most firms I know will let you volunteer time with them.
VillageMD is a consulting company focused on value based healthcare. They are making a difference and the pay is great—just ask my wife.

because 99% of your consultants are just slightly above average level smart people. We think we are smart but we are just average IQ people who are smart enough to memorize a case interview book so we can spend long long hours working on boring tasks in exchange for $$$. People that would end up solving problems like climate change need to be smart and intellectually curious, these types of people would not last 6 months in consulting.
