If what I want is to shovel as much money away for retirement as possible every year so that I can retire sooner, is MBA > IB a better option than MBA > MBB? I'm guessing PE/VC is a no go unless cont.

Go IB. MBB pay is uncompetitive compared to IB, and the hours are not that much better

@OP: don‘t think you will see your SO more often in IB. I was in M&A at Credit Suisse and living with my SO who also worked for CS. We never saw each other during the week. I went to bed at 2-3am earliest when my SO was asleep and left for work in the morning at 8:30am when she was already at work. And Sunday work is required (usually at least 4-8h).

Based on your background a top MBA would likely help.

Thank you, that's how I've felt too. I'm smart and hard working but didn't make smart choices in high school and don't have as much mobility to network into different opportunities. I've been planning to get an MBA since before I graduated undergrad, and have hit most of my targets (fast promotions, work accomplishments, meaningful impact in ECs). All that's left is gmat and I've been clocking no less than 20 hours/week for the last several weeks.

Both IB and MBB have exits oops to PE

I went to HSW or maybe Booth

Skip the MBA debt and go straight to MBB or IB. What’s your current background?

Tech consulting at accenture then slalom. Analytics Lead for multiple large O&G supermajor programs. I've tried to network into mbb and got ghosted by a partner 😥 I also got approached by several headhunters for SM roles in industry. Was well received, but for one of the positions one of the directors who liked me met up with me for coffee and told me they went with someone with an MBA. He told me it would have been a no brainer to go with me if I had an MBA.

You will make substantially more money in IB than you would in consulting. Also, there are lots of people who jump to PE/VC post MBA and IB. It may not be one of the bigger firms, but it certainly does happen.

Is 50% commission a good “salary”? Just received an offer with the following details: - 50% commission. Stepwise increase by 5% for every $5k per month (e.g., 50% of first $5k, 55% of next $5k, etc) (Resets every month) - treated as independent contractor - no health insurance, no 401k - no hour requirement, WFH option, flexible hours - they cover bar dues, CLEs I feel like 50% is very high. Obviously being an independent contractor costs me a bit more, but does this look like a decent deal?

I’m 26 years old with a salary of 135k + bonus and have a traditional IRA (previous 401k) and a Roth IRA that are similar worth (50k each) I’m trying to decide how I should go about my new 401k with my new firm. Should I go with traditional 401k for the tax relief and after-tax back door to my Roth IRA? Thoughts, suggestions please. TIA

How about we not inspire any “passions” or build any “worlds around you” for a while—give it a rest, maybe THINK OF SOMETHING ELSE and see how it goes?
