If, with my lifestyle, I can afford to make approx $100k, what should I do? I am making more than double that now at a big law firm in m&a and not happy. I am totally fine taking a pay cut after I pay some stuff off. I have no aspirations of being rich. Any ideas for types of in house positions (not GC…), freelance (?) or contract work, other non-lawyer jobs?

Depends on what kind of law you like and what type of legal work you want to do, but there are plenty of legal jobs in this range with a better work life balance. Try looking at non litigation govt positions.

If you dont want to work for the govt look at smaller more relaxed firms that do transactional work.

Save money. Retire early.

Go in house. Commercial attorneys have good lifestyles and make decent money. In-house corporate can still have bad hours (speaking from personal experience).

like

Do you like the work itself? If so just look for a smaller firm with more lax billables. I briefly left litigation to go in house and quickly realized it wasn’t litigation I didn’t like it was my firm. At a way better firm now and pretty happy.

OP, is there any chance that you might want to have a family at some point?

Hi, I am currently doing industrial PhD at Bosch in Germany. I applied for a Research Scientist position at Huawei Technologies research and development, London and is in the third round of interviews. The HR just asked me the salary expectations from my side. Any pointers on a decent salary range for this position at London?
Thanks in advance!

Either way it pretty much nets the same tax wise.

Plaintiffs counsel took my clients deposition today. He mentioned that he would likely be ordering the transcripts and I suggested we split the cost of them (in front of court reporter). He got pretty defensive and said absolutely not, it’s unfair to the court reporter, and that it is frowned upon in the industry to do that. Each party orders (and pays for) their own copy. I’m in my 2nd year of practice, never heard such a thing. I’ve actually split the cost before! Curious for insight on this…

Hi, everyone! I am extremely passionate about issues such as climate change and gun violence, and how money in politics leads to inaction and disinformation regarding these issues. Does anyone have any insight as to where I should be looking for employment opportunities? Practice areas, the type of organization, traditional vs. non-traditional law jobs? Any help or guidance would be appreciated. I really want to make a change. Thank you!
