I was contacted by an Amazon recruiter for a remote Sr. Program Manager role. I took and passed the assessment and was moved to the hiring manager round which was scheduled for tomorrow. I got an email tonight saying that the Director of the group decided that the person must be in Seattle. I am in Austin, which is not an option. I’m disappointed! The recruiter will let me know if any remote roles come up but in the mean time, does anyone have any remote Amazon roles that they’d refer me to?

You can try. But you'd better be prepared to walk...
EY1, which "boss" did you talk to your EM or senior practice Partner? And did you talk in person or over an email?
A1, did they provide any feedback on the experience? I feel like you become pariah when you take counter offers...
Trust??
Nobody expects you to be blindly loyal to a firm. Know your worth.
And why not SM? SM raises were garbage this year at ACN... could make more as an M at PwC
It happened to me (non big 4 but still competitor). I approached my boss and said I want to stay but this is too much money to turn down. If you can match I will call them and decline. Within 4 hours I had written confirmation that my salary was adjusted
Op: regional practice lead. But I went through my local partner/counselor. I talked in person.
I know several people at Accenture who have gotten a big 4 offer and gotten Accenture to match it. You just talk to your CC once you get it and go from there
A2, I'll bet it has a lot to do with the rumors/politics/size of the practice. Since these are typically partner conversations it depends if the partner tells anyone else that you did that before becoming a pariah...
Why would you become a pariah? At least youre giving your partner or accentures equivalent the chance to retain you. They probably aren't going to distribute that information. And if they do, who gives a fuck? You just got yourself a raise and demonstrated that you are marketable.
I just feel like they lose trust in you once they realize you’re willing to shop around (right or wrong).
Fair points. Does this hold true after a promo as well? I’ve considered going this route, but felt like it would be spitting in leaderships face
“Hey, thanks for this promotion but it wasn’t enough... want to match my offer from a competitor?”
Depends on the promotion. Anything under manager I think is fair game. And even manager is debatable but I'm not in a position to comment on it
It’s business nothing personal. Let them know you got another offer from competitor and considering. If they value your work, they will make an offer. Good test to see where you stand too.
Yes. Take the offer to your practice lead and give them a chance to match it if you are interested to stay. Nothing wrong with that.
Ey1 thank you, much appreciated!
