I would prefer to hire you at the top and have a CD because it gives you room to grow into the next position and helps you come in with lower expectations and ability to onboard and learn the ropes.

You’re at the high end of the ACD salary spectrum. There isn’t much room for salary growth at that level and lots of agencies probably have their ACD salary band below the 190k mark. So if you want to make more money, you have to go for CD gigs.
Well in theory they are distinc roles. Vary from agency to agency but ACD you are the most senior creative with managing responsibilities in mid-smaller projects. CD you are a manager, not so much hands-on the creative work. If you feel you are ready for a CD role then go for it but have the right expectations.
