I would absolutely do something mindless for the money I make. That would free up all my mental energy to focus on more meaningful work.

No

Something that completely goes away the second I leave the building? Hell yes.

You lost me at .."like waiting tables"

like

Hell yes! It's not like this job is fulfilling

Don't think being a server is mindless job - actually seems somewhat stressful having to manage customers with high expectations. But yes, I would take a less demanding job for the same money. Not sure my current project is that intellectually stimulating.

like

No way. Everybody needs money+challenge to feel satisfied. In business school, we learnt that we should always staff people who are 75% qualified to do their job so that there is a learning curve and that makes people want to do it.

like

Absolutely not! I was a mindless summer intern at a law firm and getting paid more than consulting. I was basically on Facebook all day. I wanted to kill myself.

^i actually enjoys being a waiter for 2 years, maybe one of my favorite jobs. Always on your feet, moving, talking to people etc.

I do something mindless for money now!

like

I wonder what mindful work I am doing now!

like

D2 A1 I agree I would definitely do it

like

Maybe a barista, not waiting

like

Yes totally. It's actually not a mindless job - just not intellectually challenging but managing a lot of tables keeps your mind busy! If you have worked in a college town with the random intellectual wait staff, it's actually interesting... you can apply your intellect elsewhere

like

? I'm already doing that. It's called transcribing interview and cleaning up notes.

I would but not waiting tables, would not be good at it. Answering the phones at a small non profit-yes.

If he doesn’t get invited to the summer camp, the Academy is suggesting a few other options, including an overnight stay this fall.
