If you currently work as a brand strategist how did you get your foot in the door?

Pure luck, tbh. I was a 'fill in' interviewee recommended through a friend who got hired at her internship. It was small, independent shop at the time, actively seeking a jr. strategist. But I second the comment above ☝🏻informational chats are certainly the way to go. You can impress the heck out of them and be on their radar for a role in the future. Reach out - I've found people are more often than not totally happy to help.

I went into the managing director's office and told her I was interested in learning and asked her who I could learn from on the side until there's an opening.

I'd go do a bunch of informational chats with planning directors at agencies you want to work for. Ask what you'd need to get hired (book, sample project, etc), go create one, and then ask for feedback. Hopefully in the process they'll see your passion, tenacity & brains + want you on their team
