its totally illegal...you are only good as long as you dont get caught....pray that you dont get caught or no one reports you....also it has no consequences for company ..they wont bother and are perfectly ok with it as long as you provide them with paperwork but the real onus is on you...good luck

This is not true, Day 1 CPT is legal. What is not legal is couple of shady universities that offer it, without satisfying the basic requirements, if the university is legit and follows the rules, there is nothing illegal about it.
This post says more about the bodyshop visa culture at Deloitte than the OP. D has been recommending this option to a lot of practitioners lately (me included). I've opted out. Do it at your own risk.

Nothing like some good old system abuse
@BCG1 Nothing like an ignorant rant. CPT is not any abuse, it is as legal as OPT.
FYI be careful on sharing your thoughts or contacting OP, post might be a honey trap. There was a similar thing by ICE a few years ago where they deported hundreds of cpt folks.
Nah Deloitte Digital sus lmao
OP, can you vouch that you are not affiliated with ICE or any other agency setting up the honey trap?
@C1 For starters, I am not moving out of the country and get to continue working. This is important as I came to the US with a lot of hope. Second, am able to try my luck at lottery again for as long as I am enrolled in the CPT program. So I get at least 2 more attempts.
The bright side is only for the Deloitte folks. EY and other firms don’t support CPT

I did day 1 CPT as well - I finished it last year, got my OPT and just got selected in H1B lottery. OP - smart move and it's legal and you are doing all the right things! Don't let these folks make you feel down.

I did less than one year of full time CPT and worked part time with Deloitte so I qualified for OPT

It’s not illegal, but just could potentially cause issues for some people.
Is it legal
Yes, it is 100% as legal as OPT. Attorneys and quite a few companies like Deloitte support it. And they wouldn’t if it’s not legal. IM if you want details on my personal experience.
All the people here claiming that CPT is legal after 3 years of OPT, why don’t you post the actual details that helps others, instead of just keep repeating its real.
When I was student many years ago, these were the rules:
1 . You get 3 years ( for STEM degree) for OPT/ CPT combined for a degree. Let’s say you did masters , utilized the full 3 years of OPT, then you are not eligible for another CPT or OPT even if you enlist for another masters degree. The school giving the CPT doesn’t care, the employer may not know but it’s still illegal
2. You can legally get a CPT again if you enlist for higher degree. So for masters students that would be PhD.
These rules might have changed. So please explain how you guys are legally doing it again.
If a person did a masters in a certain field of study , got a job on OPT to work for three years, then again applied for a CPT by joining a totally different field of study, then you cannot continue doing the job that they had before. CPT is for job experience for the field of study. If the second masters is a different field of study , then the job has to be different as well.
This is where my BS meter is flashing. May be it’s just me. Do anyone else feel the same
What's the brighter side?
