If you didn’t have a work/school/family reason, would you still choose to stay in Boston? Or move to Boston without an external reason?

Boston is quite honestly my favorite city to live in (right size and walkability)

like

That really seems to be the draw. Walkability and accessibility of the city.

I moved because it was too cold and racist. Not for people of color

Being a POC in Boston is hard. I’ve lived here for 20+ years and while the amount of overt racism has decreased, the amount of unintended racism is staggering. There are deep rooted systemic problems in Boston that other cities like NY seems to have done a better job getting out of.

I love living in Boston. Excellent size, plenty to do without being overwhelming, good career opportunities, very easy access to nature (beach, skiing, hiking), and awesome neighborhoods to live in. Planning to stay in the city for as long as possible until school systems are a concern - no plans to leave New England at that point, though.

If my SO and I didn’t have family nearby, we’d probably leave. Yes, MA is the best state in the country (education, jobs, accessibility, etc.) but the weather is miserable, there is a HCOL, traffic is a nightmare, and the city really doesn’t have all that much to offer from an entertainment/nightlife perspective.

Interesting! I haven’t heard anything but great things about Boston public transport.

If my wife’s job weren’t tied to Boston, we’d move to a warmer climate.

like

Totally get that. I’m tired of the heat in the south right now. But after a few winters in Boston perhaps this would seem like the dream.

Love New England. Probably moving further out of Boston (in the burbs now) though

I love living in Boston so yes I would still choose to!

like

No, I would live with my parents in SoCal for a year or two to save money to buy a house haha. Great city however. Then move to NC, TX, CA, ID, CO, MT, AZ.

I am trying to get out of Boston and New England in general. I’ve personally had it.
