Does anyone else get the "summer time blues "?
Happy Friday! 🤣
Due to the weather here in Texas tomorrow is…
New to Fishbowl?

There is something about school taco mystery ‘meat’ you can’t find anywhere else.

We used to have country fried steak with white gravy. That was the absolute best for me! Almost as good as Cracker Barrel. Not available anymore.
YES!! We used to have that as well, super tasty!! I love me some gravy! However, it disappeared last year during the era of classroom sequestering and a horrid amount of wasteful packaging for meals. Maybe it will make a return this year.
Yuk. Yuk and yuk. And more yuk.
Ummm, no thank you. EVER. 😝
I don't generally eat the school lunches, but their chicken turnovers are amazing!!
Chicken turnovers, yum!! That sounds so fancy-we don't get those 'round here...😆
The Friday fish frys at my schools teach cafeteria are excellent! That's about the only tine I venture down there. My classroom is so far away, it takes too much of my lunch period to make the trek, wait in line, and get back to my room to eat. But Friday is worth it!
I understand! Y'all probably get about 25 minutes for lunch, as well. I teach a self- contained, PK- 1st room, have never had a duty-free lunch. So whether I bring my own or eat taco salad with them, we're together.
Hot ham and cheese sandwich is my favorite! This past school year all students are for free and teachers were not allowed to buy lunch because they had no payment system in place. I will enjoy my fav sandwich again this year lol

$3.90 here. Yikes!

I’m so interested in the different responses from the various parts of our country. This post is lots of fun to read!
Where I worked in Eastern TN, Ms. Louise's homemade meatloaf, mashed potatoes and peas. When I was pregnant she would load my plate (twins).
Where I am now, pulled pork sandwich with slaw. HUGE step down in school lunch. The kids eat free here, but the servings are tiny, and are the same size for adults, and rarely is it worth the money. (Not free for faculty)
Oh my goodness, how I miss those sweet, 'old school' lunchroom ladies....🥰
Our cooks create a flatbread Cuban sandwich. Also they create fresh chef salads daily!!
Love the healthy salad choice!

Breakfast day: scrambled eggs (real, not the liquid), sausages, hash browns, homemade whopper-size (really big!) cinnamon roll. It’s not free for faculty, but it’s soooo worth it!!! 😋😋

Teachers who bring their lunches leave them in the refrigerator and buy lunch on breakfast day!
It is interesting, seeing the difference across the country. Not judging, but it seems California has the most processed or at least the least liked cafeteria food. At my school there's also a daily fresh salad bar, or at least there was until COVID. THAT got suspended last year but I'm hoping it will come back. It was a HUGE hit with the students, which surprised everyone, since they are middle schoolers! Who would have thought they would pick salad over processed goods!
That is why our cooks make the salads. They sell out everyday!
The school used to have good food. Now, it’s prepackaged crapola!
Back in the day, I sure liked the turkey dinner with mashed potatoes, gravy with pieces of turkey. Yum! It was the only day I order the school lunch, aside from their great salads. I do NOT order SCHOOL lunches anymore.
Agree!
I’m jealous of some of these posts. Homemade entrees and fresh salads, etc.? Nice!
We have Aramark who heats and serves the ‘lunch’. 🤢 Don’t get me started on breakfast!
Pulled pork sandwich
Chili, grilled cheese, homemade cinnamon roll
Mmmmm! We always have hot dogs with that chili and grilled cheese. One of the students' favorite days, for sure.
Meatball stew is the best or sausage & tomato gravy. Both are served over rice and it's soooo good. Anyone who is a fan of rice & gravy would live both of these.
Sausage and tomato gravy??? Shoot, I'm going to look that up for my kitchen at home!
Hard to decide. The one you can count on, though (once a month) is baked chicken.

Thanksgiving meal at school has been a favorite of mine since K12.
In the last few years, it has lost it s appeal. Perhaps this is site based. I have noted during my career that quality can vary across sites, districts and states.
Yes, many plastic sleeves and over processed meals.
My students would cry about upset stomachs on certain days. I tried lunch on one of those days. MY stomach hurt, too!

Oh yeah- pre COVID our thanksgiving meal was unbelievable!! Wonder if we’ll be getting that back? 🤔
