Wait and collect paycheck till the end. If you are mentally set to leave, stay as long as they keep you for extra cash. Then they will probable give you a severance package. In the meantime, look for a job.
If you get fired you should at least get some kind of small severance package
You can't file for unemployment benefits if you quit.
Need to terminated.
Stay. Get the unemployment.
@Tax Associate 1 You just lie and say that you left on your own. The firm won't reveal why you were let go. Fuck your company, OP. I'm sure you just made an honest mistake.
Not if you start looking for a job now and interview before being fired.
Why would you feel like you're about to be fired?
Messed up on sox testing and had to redo everything again. Also got lectured on by the partner and manager on how I'm not meeting expectations. Don't think I'll last much longer
I knew shit was going to hit the fan for me about 2 months about. I hated my work so I didn't give a shit about the quality. I planned on them firing me at some point it was just a question of when. Once they dropped me, I implemented my preset plan and came out on top. Basically, plan for the worst and turn it into a benefit. 6 weeks severance plus unemployment = long vacation plus new career.
@Staff Accountant 1 Much respect for you. I honestly DGAF anymore. My utilization is in the toilet. It's whatever.
@GT1 - not necessarily. Most places only confirm employment dates now because they don't want former employees going after them if they do not get the new job.
@Grant Thornton 1 Again...just lie. They won't find out.
Thinking about becoming a financial analyst
Love it staff acct 1, you the man with big balls
One warning though, knowing you are leaving and just waiting to get fired at the next culling (usually a month after busy season) makes showing up every day and dealing with the job basically torture. Two months seemed like six and I was barely working with my low utilization. Just make sure it's "performance" as a reason to get fired and not "stormed out of the office" or "body slammed the manager". Because you might not get your severance or unemployment.
@Staff Accountant 1 Oh, I just wouldn't even show up at that point. Over it.
Isn't it harder to find another job if you get fired?
You may want to start looking for a job now and leave before getting fired. If you were getting laid off it would be easier to find a job. When you go into an interview they will ask why you left your last job it doesn't look good if you got fired for not meeting expectations, chances are you won't find a job for awhile after that.
How bad would you have to be to get fired during busy season? Making a single mistake doesn't automatically lead to a firing. And usually you're given time to improve if you're not meeting expectations, especially during busy season where every body counts.
@PwC2, that's true. I don't think they'll fire me for 1 mistake and they will definitely give me time for improvement, but I'm also over public accounting
