Who does Ogilvy LA work on?
Yes you should dawg.
I’ve produced projects that I was on from development through delivery and PR, and people who hadn’t been with the agency for that whole time got credited for their seed of an idea– and it’s right that they did.
Stay in touch people at the agency and make sure to get on that credit list!

Like in the press release? No, I don't really expect it. It would be kind of weird for an agency to PR itself by saying, "hey, check out this work we did that we didn't actually do because the people who did it don't actually work here!" I mean, I'll still put it in my book, but we sign up to be ghost writers the minute we start working for ourselves as freelancers.

Yes absolutely. And you can and should absolutely ask. Bring receipts
Chief
If you wrote it or concepted it, absolutely.
In book and credited in awards/press are two different things. Yes to the first, not often to the second.
i get why and know agencies are shady, but that really blows
Bring read receipts
Even if they’ve changed the script slightly, or they didn’t execute it well, or they left you out in the credit that everyone can see in the press, it’s still yours to include in your portfolio.

Thanks for all the advice! This is super helpful. Truly had no idea what was the norm, so great to hear all these perspectives.
Credited as non-staff? Maybe, maybe not. But I'd feel good about putting it in my book
Ok. What if you didn’t come up with the idea. But you wrote the scripts and produced it? Still in book?
Chief
Yes. If you legit contributed to the spot existing, go ahead and put it in your book. Just be honest if someone asks you what you did
Yes.
Yeah
What are read receipts?
My rule for credits is: if my dad had worn a condom on the day of my conception, would this idea still exist? If the answer is “no” then I put it on portfolio.
Depending on the contract. Freelance contracts are a lot more detail these days (sometimes too detail). But even if you are not credited in an Award listing, the team should mention you in other sources such as when they are being interviewed, etc. In any case, there’s no harm to ask to be included.
Yes. 1000X yes
