Bain & Company What is the likelihood of making SAC in September 2022 if I join as an AC on April 18th at Bain & Company? I am a senior consultant at EY with 3.5 years of experience in Data Analytics. Or is March 2023 more realistic? They told me 6 months for promotion but it seems like the two promotion cycles with my different start dates give me 4 or 9 months of experience, nothing in between. I’ll be joining in the private equity group which will be new for me.

This sounds like a risky plan. Why is your manager not moving you to a new team? There has to be a reason. And another solution that doesn’t require you risking leaving a company you love and burning bridges. Even if you take the counter the company knows you’re a flight risk. At first round of layoffs, you’re out.
Also don’t waste another company and teams time if you have no intention of taking the job. I spend a lot of time interviewing people and finding a good fit.
If you were indispensable, they’d hire a team around you. Our industry is notorious for having one rockstar running an account by themselves, saving money on a team, then burning them out.
From what I’ve seen, the promotion isn’t necessarily immediate, even with a counter. Could vary from weeks to a months and that depends a lot on finance/profitability. Would suggest asking for timing and hold them accountable!
Already on a list to be promoted but taking forever and yes I know I have to be ready to take the outside offer. Any advice much appreciated!
