If you get an offer with comp that you have requested(you were ambiguous during the interview process about the amount), can you still counteroffer?

Me: "I will paint your house for $500." You: "Okay, here's $500. Go ahead and get started whenever you're ready. " Me: "Actually, I'll need $550." You: "What do you mean? You said that the service was $500. What could have possibly changed the price in the last two seconds?" Me: "Umm... I just want more money."

You can do a lot of things but it’s unlikely they will up the offer - after all, they already know what you will take since you said it yourself.

If they met your number right away that means you left money on the table.

If you're gonna piss about for 3k, I'd rescind the offer immediately. Reason being if I already met what you initially wanted, and now you're gonna hold up the process for such an insignificant amount, it shows bad foresight, bad planning, bad attention to detail, disrespect for my time, and generally "I don't know what I want from this job, I'm just running away from my current job because I didn't like it."

like

Manager 1, I do realize that but am wondering if I can still request more or if that is going to be consider disrespectful

It could mean that they had the same budgeted amount (or very close). How much more would you ask for?

$3k or so

I feel that it's disingenuous, but even if they say no, it won't leave a lasting bad impression. Depending on the size of the company, you may never see the negotiating parties again.

If they offered what you asked for you def left money on the table, but that was a misstep in your salary negotiation. Don't make another by asking for more after they gave you what you asked for. It will leave a bad initial impression at a brand new position.

Exaggerated of course, but still...

I countered (albeit my counter was much much higher) and never heard from them again
