McKinsey & Company Does working at a McKinsey subsidiary or specialist practice open doors similar to working in generalist consulting there? Examples include Orpheus, Finalta, QuantumBlack and other acquired companies. Can you work there for 1-2 years and benefit from a halo effect that helps you enter industry more easily? This job is miserable without travel.
Got a random email from a supposed Amazon recruiter for a SDE position (which is not at all a fit). The email is amazon.com domain and there are no red flags in the body but it doesn't feel like an Amazon recruiter due to the tacky signature, etc. Has anyone seen this kind of cold-calling from FAANG recruiter?

No. Otherwise you see your leverage to 📉
Actually idk. Because they will verify your work, and if you told them “currently employed” this may raise a flag
When I got a new job the background check asked for a resume I’d update that to reflect your last date of employment. You can tell the folks who hire you after the process
Don’t! Your negotiation power goes down.
Pro
Hard NO. Specially if you have a severance period, usually you are "employed" for that lenght of time.
What good does it do for you?
Definitely not, unless they ask, then try provide a brief explanation, if it is not anything you did bad, you can still focus on your strengths.

“I know you’re hiring me for new job because you think I’m great, but at old job they fired me because I wasn’t”
No. Unless they ask. But you don’t need to volunteer it.
Question: did you know the layoff was going to happen when you applied?
No. Don't mention it in interviews. However, if you get the offer, fill out your real dates of employment on the relevant forms. This way, you don't raise questions for interviewers, and you pass the background check without issues.
Rising Star
Currently in background checks for a new role after being laid off. They won’t know and I won’t let them
No lol why
I imagine this like a Michael Scott situation
Nobody:
Michael: I’m not wearing a wire
I would negotiate with current company to extend last day
This is great advice
