Looking out for job opportunities
I stopped giving a range. I just say the number I want that I feel is reasonable for my experience and position.
Same. I just say “I’m targeting X”. No range.
Depends who the recruiter works for. If they are working for you, then they will try to get you as much money as possible. If they are working for an agency, then they will not.
As a rule, don’t say anything you wouldn’t be willing to accept.

I've been offered more.. not much more.
I said “120-130” and they offered 120. Go figure.
If it’s a marginal salary difference I would usually counter by asking for a few extra days PTO. But the agency has unlimited vacation, and its other benefits are pretty good too. When I offer a salary range to recruiters it’s always with the caveat “depending on the total comp package.” This one seemed fair, so I took the 120.
I once said 80 and they came back with 100. It was a red flag.
C2 well in retrospect, it was a read flag. But at the time I felt great! I think 5 or 10k over is awesome but once you get to more than that, I would think twice. But that’s probably only because I went through it once already.
Ask for the budget range for the role. Most have it but ask you first to find a way to give you the low end. Don’t give in!
Thanks everyone. They came back and offered 5k above my “ish” number.
They might try to stay at the lower end. Even a tad below that if your range feels high
I’ve never said ish. Once said 90-100 and they came back with 95 🤷🏼♀️

This was my situation. I said 170 send they gave 175.
If you think being offered more money is a red flag you are asking for a low salary throughout your career.
The lowest number you state is the most they will offer.
Take your top salary, a number you’d love to make that‘s almost hard to say out loud. Make that the bottom number of your range.
I gave an ish number (not a range, but an $xxxish) in my interviews and was offered slightly more.
