I went client side for a year and returned to agency side. It doesn’t make you “soft” - problem with agency side though is that everyone is working harder, not smarter...
In my 15 years of ad life, I've never seen someone go client side then return to advertising...

I feel like some people hop back and forth, but is there some stigma attached when you come back? I’ve gotten the impression that people think going client side makes you soft and unable to return to the rigor of agency life.
I did it. Was only client side for a year and came back as soon as I could. Gives you an edge you can use in interviews bc you see the other side of the pitch/procurement process.
I have seen a few people go client side and then come back. Usually not an issue, especially if you bring the clients business back with you
SR is on point. I feel like my experience so far has helped make me find smarter ways to do shit I'd spend hours trying to execute.
CD2, not necessarily true. I’ve worked in-house with very high standards for brand work. Depends on where you’re at
Also depends on what agency you go back to afterwards. Going to a spot that is more branding focused could be different situation than going to an ad agency. Depends on what your role is
I started in a promotional marketing place. Went client side. Then to an ad shop. Then a digital shop. Then client side. Now doing more 360 stuff. Client side gave me a ton of knowledge I wouldn’t have gotten agency side. You see how things work for clients. Learn a lot about where some stupid decisions come from which helps navigate bad feedback. Plus I was at retail places and everyone loves retail. So you can make the hop back and forth no problem. It was VERY hard for me
It’s easier for non traditional creatives like digital types or programmers. It’s easier for account people and producers. But fact of the matter is, the creative expectations are lower for creatives who write and design. So it will be hard.
