Anyone here work at Wellington Management and is willing to chat with me about a Data Science / Quant role? Recruiter reached out and I’m considering whether I should interview for it. Currently work at a Global Macro Desk of a MM hedge fund (think Millennium, Balyasny, Pt72) and looking to understand more about firm culture, investment process, career prospects to the extent possible and comp. Thanks!

Have you spent a minimum of 10 years as a classroom teacher? Because if you haven't, go back until you have put in the time. Only then should you even think about becoming a principal. I have had too many administrators with little to no time in the classroom (less than 3 years) and every single one of them was an arrogant and ignorant disaster.

HSSST1—Yes, and some of the ones coming in with Master’s degrees (and who have no real-world work experience other than student teaching) seem to display this know-it-all attitude more often. I love when we get the younger people who have worked various part-time jobs throughout high school and college because they have soft skills that transfer, and they don’t act entitled to teach AP classes in year 1 or 2.
The lack of energy, work ethic, and commitment I’m seeing in our society is scary. Part of it is due to the pandemic, but something else has seriously changed these past 5-10 years. People in our own profession full-on lie in their interviews about their reasons for becoming a teacher and then their colleagues quickly find out that it was “just their backup plan” and they really only want to work 8-4, not sponsor anything, resent PD, and don’t like working with the kids. Admin does very little because they simply need the warm bodies to fill classrooms right now. 😢
I was on our principal interview panel this week and I guess 20 years in education has made me cynical. I could already tell one candidate was "encouraged" to apply and gave off the "yes man" vibe, so it felt like a farce as I wouldn't be the least bit surprised he gets the job (even though our panel had him in next to last place... we were all seasoned vets who could read between the lines). Ideally, Principals will have experienced different facets of education (teaching, classified, counseling, etc.), but that is probably searching for a unicorn. The best interview question would be asked of the candidate's last place of employment- "describe your experience with this person!"
