If you have any desire to be in PE, than go to the PE firm. You can always lateral to MBB in the future. Much harder to go from consulting to PE.

MBB if you want to end up in UMM/MF. Moving upstream from LMM to UMM/MF will be basically impossible

Also I’m too old for b school

Do you mind sharing what interviewers were looking for in the PE interviews? Wondering if I need to get IB job before PE or if I can make the move from consulting. Thank you and congratulations!

Thank you for the thoughtful answer! Were you self taught for the LBO / CIM technical portion? Thanks again and best of luck!

Do you guys at BCG think it would be a smart decision to make a lateral move to PL from Big 4? Have great network and support at current company. The MBB brand, 20k increase in TC, and potential better exit opportunities would be reasons to move. Worried about the challenges of starting from scratch at BCG, proving myself as IC in first few projects, and probably a worse WLB. Would love any insights TIA!

Are there PhDs here who transitioned to consulting at MBB, EY-P, Altman Solon etc. I am a PhD candidate ( Earth Sciences) at UIUC and have begun seriously considering a career in consulting. I am looking for advice and/or mentorship on: 1. Crafting a consulting resume and cover letter 2. Networking as an advanced degree, how important it is? While I am in touch with some consultants from my academic background, I haven’t looked at the relationship as a potential referral as of yet.
