If you had a deal now targeting signing on your last day at the firm (with the potential for signing to slip into the following week), would you stay through signing if your firm asked? Current midlevel on the deal, if that context is helpful

Absolutely not.

like

No. There should already be someone else on the deal to take over for you.

like

Lol how much extra are they offering to pay

The answer is no

like

No, just make sure to loop in another associate or partner to handle in case closing slips.

like

If you like firm and people, then I probably would as long as it doesn’t impact your new start date. Just don’t take on any new work. You’re still getting paid.

like

The time off between leaving a firm and starting at a new one is precious. It’s not worth sacrificing even a day or two, especially for the stress of a delayed closing.

like

Don’t do it. I was in this scenario and the deal closed just fine without me

like

What sort of pressure could they possibly exert? Just peer pressure? This isn’t your issue

Heck no. Not your problem.

like

I did extend and do an extra week at my firm before lateraling due to an ongoing deal I was running. They asked me to stay through closing, I refused since that was too indefinite, but agreed to an extra week to move it along as much as possible.

IMO, a week is short, your career is long. Cannot tell you how many times former colleagues have helped me out with work and networking favors. If you hate the place and everyone there, you do you, but if you think you may ever work across from these people, they may lateral to your new employer, they may get a job at your client etc., think about whether you want to leave them with a great impression of you.

like

Precisely. You said it better than I did above but I totally agree.

like

Sure, for $150k

Absolutely not.

Hi All, I need some career guidance.

7+ YOE - 3 in tech support role (after BE) and 4+ in BA & PM role (after MBA). Worked on RPA and process improvement projects for 2 yrs. Currently working on internal tool implementation projects - PMO, UAT, change strategy, etc.

I want to switch to a product company in a PM/TPM role, and I am planning to learn something new which has a great future scope, pays well, and aligns with my profile. Any recommendation would really help me take a right call.

What’s a family secret that everyone in your family knows but doesn’t talk about?

I’ll go first, in the 70s my grand father immigrated to another country and had a whole second family with another woman. There are children from both families that are the same age. No one knew anything about it until the early 2000s when my uncle went to visit him and learned about this whole other family. My grandmother still stayed with this man and all of the siblings pretended like it didn’t happen.

I’m having a really hard time integrating with my new firm after lateraling. In the beginning I figured it was to be expected but 6 months in I’m still not adjusting. New culture is extremely competitive and backstabby among associates. I feel like there’s no one I can trust to even be a decent teammate let alone give good advice or feedback. I want out so bad but I’m too junior to get good traction in house and geographically limited from going back to my old firm. This really sucks.
