I spent some time at Mercer in the exec comp space - honestly workload and comp depends a lot on the city. People were great and there were a lot of opportunities but you really had to push for them. It was a grind for me - workload varies a lot depending on clients and partners you work with. Workload is heavy if you're in a major city and have demanding clients but working style and schedule is typically driven by the senior consultant on the engagement. The people I worked with (all levels) generally had a work hard, play hard mentality so we had lots of fun (and lots of late nights out). Comp is generally on the low end/below market at analyst and associate levels. At Sr. Associate it typically does get a bit more competitive but probably still at lower end of market. At Principal+ it becomes competitive and once you hit Sr. Principal+ you can be quite competitive relative to market. Can't speak to WTW but at Mercer I had a lot of opportunities to work with our M&A team, consultants at OW and also a number of different groups/cities. Different internal roles (in addition to consulting) are possible and competitive pay at the lower levels are possible but you need to be aggressive and ASK for them. My overall experience was decent, I had very strong advocates and had to threaten to quit on more than one occasion. But my workload was very heavy.

Currently working at Mercer as a Consulting Analyst for Comp & Ben. The work life balance, company culture and work process flow is brilliant.

Interned at WTW in the northeast US and people were AWESOME, such a nice team. Outside of work activities were a little cliquey but opportunity to do cool stuff as a group. The comp just wasn't competitive for me -- but between those two options I can say you'd be happy at WTW just by communicating clearly about bandwidth. Work ~38 hrs/wk at the first few levels.

No, I do general strategy stuff

Sorry off topic but what do compensation consultants do exactly?

Analyze clients' current pay programs against the market, recommend pay changes to meet client objectives (e.g., attracting and retaining talent; becoming more market competitive; aligning pay with performance).

I'm looking at doing cyber/cloud related work for WTW, 14 years of experience in the DC area. I'm curious if there is much of a cyber division for your company?

I have small wrists (41-42mm is preferred), if that influences your answer.
