I really don't get all the K hate on here these days. You guys all sound miserable but I don't see many threads like that from K. Good work/life balance, great relaxed people, not all getting laid off. You could do a lot worse than K.
I'd rather be a sanitary worker than employed by either of those...

Why is everyone treating Slalom like a step-child?

I don't get looking down at Slalom - different model. You get to be home-ish. That is a great value prop. As for Big5 firm rankings, theres a pecking order but that doesn't mean all Deloitte consultants are superior. The company is the best run of the Big 4 though. Depending on what I wanted from life, I'd choose Slalom over MBB - especially with kids
I second EY1. I want to get off the road and Slalom seems like a good transition. I am not cut out for MBB.

I could go to MBB, well M. They will grind you - the upside is huge but so is coming home to sig other, a dog and not being at an airport at 11pm, every Thursday night

Ugh that's a tough one. I'd do Slalom in a heartbeat if they traveled, but they don't really, and as my username might suggest, I'm kind of a travel junkie

They're called Slalom because they meander down the hill vs. skiing straight down. If you're cool with that and have given up on full tilt ambition - go there. It's a good place for people looking for balance
Big 4 is closely related to hunger games. Instead of President Snow, you have PPEDs putting people through trials and tribulations to represent your district (or BU/Practice)
I'm a bit confused about the K hate as well. Shocked someone would be scared of having a mark that they didn't get into other big 4. I turned down a job a Deloitte for K and would do it again 10/10 times. Culture at D isn't a fit for me.
