If you had to pick a career you’d be qualified for that didn’t involve writing as the primary responsibility, what would it be? And yes, I’m unemployed as hell, but this is completely unrelated...it’s not unrelated

Probably photography. People are more in need of portraits than ever in the age of social media, and I find photographing people to be especially fun and rewarding. It gets you up and active instead of sitting in front of a computer (except when you're editing shots - but even then, you can listen to music with words or podcasts while you do it, which aren't distracting like they would be during writing - at least they are for me).

Hmm. Writing/authoring is my fall back, but that doesn’t count here. Maybe something in the wine business? Or travel?

I’ve been on the bench with J1 for about 3 months. I was worried that because I couldn’t find another project, I would get laid off so I found J2, which pays more, is very meeting heavy, but I really like. I’ve kept J1 because I’m still on the bench doing absolutely nothing and getting paid. Thinking about looking for a role on a project with J1 that’s not along my career path but will allow for me to do work with no calls so that I can manage both jobs. Does anyone have experience or advice?

Have some down time now and want to learn something 'foundational' - not latest trends or just an overview. Do you have any recommendations on what can someone who has been in IT consulting in payer/provider for 5 years can learn? Like a short college course or a Coursera certification? Anything?

Hello! I have been a Pharmacy Technician for about 9 years now and I need to move on. My salary is in the mid 50s which is considered high for this role, so there is little opportunity to advance with this title. I've been applying relentlessly to other positions within and outside of my company. I have a BS in Biology and MS in Health Systems Management, but have struggled to land something else that I'd like to do in healthcare/pharmacy that pays better. Any suggestions??

Need some help deciding on a non-traditional exit. Quickly becoming disillusioned with consulting, and no industry/function seems interesting to me. I have an opportunity to work at a nonprofit that is highly regarded in its field, but likely at a 50% decrease in TC. The role is equivalent to me going from L10 to L11. Upside is it’s network and opportunities to transition into roles in which I am very interested. Should I keep trying to find a fit in consulting or take this opportunity?

Would jumping to in-house for a ~40% raise, worth it? It’s a software company that seems a bit dated and boring tbh so I’m worried I’d burn myself out but the pay is attractive. Would it be a bad move to leverage the offer to try to get my current agency to even meet me halfway? We’re doing okay financially now and I’ve been there for a year. I like the work and the people but it’s very disorganized which is beyond frustrating. In-house seems more structured but likely less creative.
