As long as it takes to find one. Why do you have to stay at EY until a specific date. Your new company may be flexible on start date but they had a job opening because the need someone now so they usually don’t like pushing too far back

Lots of reasons. They may have to repay some portion of maternity leave / professional fees / signing bonus / relocation assistance if they leave within a time frame. Or maybe bonus gets paid out on a specific date. The list goes on ... With that being said, OP, just try to negotiate with your new employer for a sign on bonus equal to what you’d be giving up financially if you leave EY before a certain date. I wouldn’t pass on a great job opportunity just because I have to repay my employer an amount.
