You are correct. Unfortunately reopening the general country means that your employer can choose to turn on the lights and fire you if you don’t come in. It also means the federal benefits and stimulus money will end because “you can just go work.”
They are advocating for our expendability.
Wait my employer opens up - I want to continue to WFH - that's grounds for termination?

To make matters worse, if sections of the population leave quarantine and undercut social distancing that both undermines the effectiveness of the rest of still practicing social distancing and remaining at home while also requiring the rest of us to stay home even longer to combat the uptick in cases caused by their galavanting about.

These “open up” idiots are doing nothing but prolonging the pain of this thing. They are surrendering to the enemy. Letting it live. You can’t MAKE the economy come back by getting everyone sick. It’s completely irrational.
They’re getting played. Just basically guaranteeing Wall Street another bailout. Maybe that’s the real game here. Get execs as much strings-free government $$$ until a vaccine is developed? That’s precisely what’s going to happen. Watch.
They should be demanding what Bernie mentioned, and many other (smarter, less greedy) countries are guaranteeing their citizens... more individual bailouts. Trump is too dumb to see that easy trick to another four years. Oh well.
Consumers aren’t going to go out and spend if they don’t feel safe. It’s that simple. It’s a dead-end game, literally and figuratively. Testing, isolation and an eventual treatment/vaccine are the only way through this. COViD-19 has all the cards. The US is 42nd in testing per capita. Just not enough.
Just pray it doesn’t mutate into something even worse. If this thing was killing kids at a higher rate, we wouldn’t even think about leaving the house. But I guess grandma is negotiable. To some.
Our team secretary basically said “yeah but people shouldn’t live this long anyway” I am speechless at how callous that is 😶

I read an article over the weekend that at a random sidewalk sampling in greater Boston, over 30% of people are testing positive for antibodies. This means it’s well past the curve and now part of our winter cold/flu mix. Are we going to quarantine forever? Where is the line?
I understand both sides of the argument, but this divide over safety at all costs and personal liberty is more intense than blue vs red.

I’m in the high risk category, but personally I’d rather take my chances then be a prisoner for 18 months. I don’t think the economy should crumble because I have an immune issue. Though I also think employers should allow at risk people to take precautions including to continue to work from home, if possible.
