Loving my care-free holiday season. Resigned from my old firm last week and set my start date for next firm in mid January. This might have to be the move every year lol
Expats from the US or elsewhere outside Australia/NZ, how do you navigate the holiday season? Do you fly home, or fly people out to you? If you stay in Australia how do the seasonal holiday celebrations differ from back home? Trying to decide what to do, first year living in Sydney.
My agency is implementing a new PTO process that includes getting your PTO request “signed off on” by HR. Is that normal?! (We currently have unlimited PTO)
👀 Still looking for an apartment swap in NYC. I have a clean apartment in Mexico City. The dates are October 27th to November 3rd, Day of the Dead holiday weekend. With LOTS happening. Located in the best area of Mexico City with a ton of restaurants, cafes, and parks. High speed internet with standing desk, large TV, external monitor, and more. Message me your email or phone number and we can text to exchange pictures and more information.
I recently accepted a new job offer a few weeks ago and start soon. It's not a well known company. It's a debt collector and is remote. I can work anywhere in the country. I recently got a job offer from JPMorgan as well and it is also remote, but I have to go wherever a hub and can visit family with vacation. Both companies pay almost the same - JPMorgan pays slightly more. I'm torn between the 2. The other company has a better title Senior InfoSec Analyst. JP's is Cyber Engineer. Any advice?
I'll start - How much do benefits factor into your job search and deciding on an offer? For me, the vacation is critical, and it reflects the extent of the agency's culture of trust.
I'm currently working as an HR Director for a New Jersey non-profit of about 165 employees. I have been with the company 7 years and have a total of 10 years in the HR world. I have my Master's in HRM, my SHRM-CP, and am currently making $87k yearly. I have 7 weeks PTO, flex scheduling, and the ability to work remotely at my own discretion.
My father in law thinks I'm worth at least $40k-$50k more than I'm being paid currently. I don't know if he's right. What do you think?
Do you work a lot of overtime during flu season/the holiday season? My manager says with travelers and people needing shots + antibiotics we'll get swamped for like the next 3 months. Do I just work somewhere understaffed or is there a "busy season?"
How much time off do you get for the holidays? I have 1 week off. Social workers or therapists at hospitals or treatment centers especially.
Wayfair Wants us to work Black Friday week but says we have to make up our free thanksgiving holiday they gave us for regular pay first before we can get double pay, is it just me or that sneaky? I’d rather get double to work the holiday! 😡 thoughts? Wayfair
Just recieved a offer from Western Alliance Bank for a Senior Business Analyst role. Comp 100k but the role would be in office. I currently work remote, have unlimited PTO,and a really healthy work life balance but am being underpaid tremendously. The new role seems like it does not have healthy work life balance and many red flags have already come up. I want to grow my skills and wouldn't mind being in office as I do miss being around people. How do I vet the role before accepting?
My school has seen combinations of f2f, hybrid, and remote teaching/learning throughout the first half of the school year. After the MLK holiday, our district is returning to traditional f2f teaching 100%. I have 4 band classes (1 beginning, 2 intermediate, & 1 advanced), and as far as content pacing is concerned, we’re 1 9-week grading period behind. Is it a far fetched goal to get my students where they need to be by the end of the school year? How would you handle a situation like this?

210k points/totally stay for 3 nights at London JW and similar properties in June. Too high for time of year? Booked Moxy Stratford for 75k but reviews don’t look great (I know it’s budget).
What all is usually included in a relocation package with the offer? Relocating from TX to MD. What should I be thinking about to negotiate?
Any Slalom 🐠 willing to refer me for a role to the Denver office? Background in internal and external consulting. Experience using SQL, Tableau, Alteryx, Anaplan and Microsoft Office Suite.
I feel like my mum only ever looks for me when she wants money. Once i send it’s all good for her. I’m going through a lot being pregnant for the first time but she hardly randomly asks how I’m doing. Doesn’t even check on how preps for baby are going. PS my dad is late so she’s my best only parent.
New role: Have 1-2 years of social experience? LA based?
DM me. I might just hire you. Thanks!

Anyone have recommendations for an organized and trustworthy contractor in Los Angeles? I‘ve worked with an architect to design an ADU and a 500 sq ft addition to our house on the Westside, but all the contractors he recommended are either extremely difficult to work with or want to charge a premium for things like “design services” and “administration fees.” I understand construction materials are expensive now - but isn’t there anyone out there who can work with us as a “trusted advisor”??
How many of you are doing back up care/day care/ child care vs managing children at home? What's your thoughts around this, pros and cons?
Hi! I just went back to Europe to mail in my approved O1 application to get a visa stamp in my passport. The interview was waived because of Covid). Outside of the paper they asked for they asked for further information to investigate my case, meaning my whole application that was previously submitted to UCSIC. Has anyone had to do this before? Very nervous about this.

What's an appropriate thank you for someone who's made introductions on your behalf? They are a coworker from long ago who owes me nothing. Obviously, I sent a note but it doesn't seem like enough.
Advice please. So I very recently (3 mo) started a job that is just not a good fit for me. If I find another opportunity, how do I not burn this bridge? I never like to leave anything sour.
Any one have ideas on how to participate in the 3% conf if your company can’t pay for you to go & you can’t afford the tix yourself? Are there happy hours you can attend or other ways to network?

Thoughts on the outcast agency?
How do you navigate a working relationship where someone in a different department but at the same director level as you consistently assumes seniority over you? The thing is they're great and can be an ally, but they're frequently shutting down the team's work and having a negative impact on the team's morale and output.
How big of a bonus do you think Wendy Clark will get? 💰
Forks are literally just bad spoons. There is no conceivable world where I’d pick forks over spoons. Spoons can do everything forks can and forks can do nothing spoons can. Even the hybrid spork shows this clear advantage where forks are made to be more like spoons. Like … ok there’s spaghetti big deal I’ll just scoop it up with my spoon. Steak? Oh no I have to scoop up the steak with my spoon. Try eating soup with a fork. Exactly.
In case no one told you recently, THANK YOU…for your hard work…late nights…constructive feedback…extra effort…. How often do you hear thank you at work?
Pro Tip: don’t be afraid to use unlimited PTO. The moment you switch company, you’re not getting paid out a penny for any days you haven’t used
It’s a smart little trick. Someone a long time ago figured out that if you give unlimited, people will actually take fewer days off.
That could change as millennials age, though
Unlimited PTO and generous WFH policy here. I’m relatively new to the agency but so far I haven’t seen, experienced, or heard of any issues. As long as the quality of your work remains the same and it’s getting done on time, no one really cares.
It’s especially super nice for me around this time of year because my family is 1400 miles away, so with unlimited PTO I know I don’t have to worry about not being able to go home for the holidays. Where as last year I had to save ½ of my PTO just to be able to spend Christmas with my family
As long you use common sense it’s great! I had it at my last FT agency and loved it. No wondering if you can see family for the holidays, take a long weekend, or just take a week to not think about work. I wish every place had it
They feel more free to take it away from you or ask you to work during it. “Because there’s always more where that came from”.
I asked my boss about this before joining, he said 4-5 weeks, so that’s what I’m going by.
Better than 2 weeks, not really unlimited
Take more than 25 days at your own risk. Also you are still probably expected to hit billability targets so know what they are
