If you hold a DoD clearance at a government contractor, are you allowed to start an LLC, and build a business outside of work hours? The business would have no relation to any government.

Yes, you probably need to report outside employment/activity

Report it to your SSO

Check with your Ethics office

All of the above advice apply. Understand that those that care about your clearance are worried about outside parties (including partners, creditors, customers, even relatives) do not develop levers that they may use to potentially force you to do or say something about your job that may compromise security. Volunteering at the local senior center is one thing but having a business that depends on foreign business or customers is another.

Yes. Many of us have LLCs

Just try not to open any accounts overseas or own properties overseas. Not that you’re not allowed to, but it gets annoying when you have to report it.

For those who working in data science (hired for a data science job), how often does your team assign you to software development/engineering tasks. My interviewer made it clear that the position was specifically for a data science job (e.g. modeling, preprocessing, etc). It’s been 10 months and they’ve given me only software development work such as web application development and UI/UX design. I tried to talk to my boss but the response was more like “it’s a good learning opportunity.”

I’m moving to SF at the end of summer. Is it common for single people in their early 30s to have roommates?

I could afford a $4k 1bd/1ba place and understand the HCOL, but that much for rent seems excessive to live close to work in downtown SF especially with student loans, etc.

I feel like my work place is either discriminating against me or has me on a list to get rid of. At the expense of coming across as a jerk I stand up for myself at work and I'm not afraid of telling my work place no. Which is one reason I feel I'm on a list that my upper management doesn't like. I don't go out of my way to be a jerk but I know my rights as an employee and my work place doesn't like that. They won't let me promote but let people I've trained get promoted.

I’m 25 and have an array of experience within environmental science. I mostly enjoy being a field employee but recognize the pay is not always great. Any suggestions or recommendations would help, I’m open to anything!

I got a new job offer that I accepted and I’m planning on giving my notice next Tuesday when my manager is back from winter break. I’m giving a month’s notice to help with the transition of my work but I’m still feeling guilty because I have a good relationship with my manager and my team and I don’t think they will see it coming. Any tips on what to say to my boss when I tell her I’m leaving the company to help lessen the blow? Should I do it at a certain time of day to be more considerate?
