M1, ugh. That’s a really ungenerous interpretation of a reasonable question
Really depends on whether you were a high performer, coming back into the same practice and at the same level as well as how you left things.
We had several boomerangs in our practice that we just spoke on the phone with and a made an offer. They all were strong performers and left on very good terms. A couple of others we interviewed as its been a few years but it was a very friendly getting caught up type of an interview for the most part, and we did have them talk to someone who didn't know them as well.
I say give them a call and explain it wasn't a good match and you would be interested in returning. Good luck!
“You” don’t get to decide to go back; "they” get to decide if they want to re-hire you. Process will differ firm by firm; here you could only come back if you had strong partner support.
BCG1 I disagree. The question is indicating a naive mindset. Better here it here first. Going back after a year likely needs strong partner support and a very good story. Otherwise why rehire OP so they can change their minds again after another year of investment in their development?
Better here it here McK1? Yikes
MC1, he and only he can decide whether to go back. They then can make a decision whether to welcome him back.
McK1 is just upset he got dinged at Deloitte. Obvi.
