It’s a competitive market and everyone understands that- express your genuine appreciation of their effort and tell that that you’ve decided to pursue another opportunity that aligns with your long term goals.
Especially in sales- they should know how to handle rejection even when they’ve invested in the process.
I’m in the same predicament. I live in Fort Lauderdale and a good company put together a beautiful package to move me to Los Angeles. I’m flattered and have seriously considered the package but the move at this time in my life, is just not something I can get excited about. I don’t want to appear ungrateful but this is not a move for me.
What was the reason you rejected them? Surely if they've bent over backwards to achieve your requirements it speaks volumes about the company? How did you go about benchmarking the companies when you came to your final decision?
Yes. Definitely appreciate them doing that. They knew I had a competing offer and tried to increase my package. However it is still not significantly different to the competing offer. Abt 10K difference per year between both. Decided to go with the other one as there is very high growth in that industry and also the product. Both are FAANG companies. So def want to stay in touch
At the end of the day, it's business, not personal. Just be polite and professional. Thank them for all their efforts, but let them know that you've decided to accept the other offer as it's more in line with your needs at this time.
Ugh this is so tough. I have been there myself. At the end of the day you have to do what is best for you. I would just politely explain why you are going in a different direction and be on your way.
May I ask why you're rejecting them?
Sometimes it's just a case of pulling a band aid. You have to explain that you truly appreciate it, but be honest with them about why you're going with a different offer.
