“oh you just figured that out? Hahaha, but congrats on the medication! I’m glad it’s working out so well for you!”
“Wait, YOU have it?! Oh boy, that means I probably do too…”
They took it pretty well. Had it been 10-20 years ago, they might not have. But when I explain how it explains some of my behaviors and patterns throughout my life and I feel like the get the correlation now.
The fun thing is I've figured out both my parents have it too 🤣🤣🤣 So when one of them comes to me to vent about the other, I talk about how ADHD is effecting or causing the problem (like time-blindness, hyperfocus, emotional regulation, etc). That being said, they are not ready to hear that they have it, so I only talk in confidence with each person about the other and try to talk about ADHD, how it works, and what they can do to help, to de-escalate the frustration.
I've told my family and some friends, but I try not to publicize it really - I just am a pretty private person so I'd rather not have it out
I think my mom would understand me and would be very supportive. My other family members would probably brush it off and gaslight me. So I'm probably only telling my mom and siblings.
I have told them already. It is sad that they did not understand it at first. Fortunately, my doctor was more than willing to educate them :)
I have told my family and they know. I have a hard time focusing, sitting still, have to be on the go all the time, and have a hard time settling down at times. They sometimes joke with me but in all seriousness, they do try to help me when my anxiety is through the roof.
I told everyone in my family and my friend group and they were not one bit surprised LOL. I think they actually all suspected that I had ADHD before I even knew that I did. It did not go bad at all and honestly, nobody really cared anyhow.
I have told pretty much everyone. NOt one single soul was surprised. THey all said I had ADHD long before I really knew that I had it.
