If you were a junior person trying to understand the politics at the senior levels of your company, how would you do it? Word of mouth is one way I’d imagine, but that could be tough to navigate...

I wouldn’t.

I’m a somewhat experienced partner in my firm and can barely be bothered to understand our politics.

There is politics at every level - not just highest levels . You will learn to navigate as you progress through the ranks . There is no particular advantage in knowing this beyond your current level and one level above you . I wouldn’t sweat it

Random Tangent: After year end results were delivered, staff received meager 3.8% adjustments, which is far from the news reports of 7.9% USA inflation. PwC partners - One of my biggest takeaways is that Directors aren’t taken care of appropriately in the firm. That includes lack of focus on their mental health, their work-life balance, unreasonable metrics, comp and bonus increases, how cohort progression is managed and transparency about the PCLDE process. This is based on my 4+ yrs as a D and talking to several folks at or outside CLEX. Several of us leave due to this - just sharing this feedback to consider.
