Product management for sure! You can always go into consulting!
Was MBB now a PM. entered because it was sexy, but really it’s only 10% strategy thinking and 90% wrangling cats, putting out fires, managing HR issues, being stuck in meetings, giving progress updates day to day… definitely less fun, and less money w recent RSU implosion. Was good when the sun was shining down on tech
I have interviewed for the level 6 Senior PM role post MBA and no consulting experience. Group PM is like a level 7.5 and I think one has to grow within the firm to get this level.
I usually see people immediately after an MBA, interviewing for the level 6 role. Rarely for the level 7.

If I could do it again - I would go do PM (esp. if you’ve done some sort of consulting pre-MBA)
MBB . More money , more fun , better growth . Go to TMT practice
Actually I was PM and managed PMs . It is a repetitive technical work . Being Principal at MBB TMT - much better value proposition . Being Partner - even better

If you want to work as a PM, faang or non faang shouldn’t matter.
This is sound advice. I switched into a solution management role in a niche area I’m passionate about after consulting gave me the opportunity to look across industries and domains. I wouldn’t have found that if I jumped into general tech
PM 100%. You don’t want to be in consulting if you can be a PM at FAANG.
Had an offer for PM and chose consulting. I find the team collaboration and work 1000x more stimulating

Depends how much you like working and like money. MBB is more lucrative than 95% of PM roles.
I would say FAANG had its glory years, and now will have more pain to endure, while they all have to justify profitability. Likely means removing redundancy roles, fte head count and dressing up every role should be paid 6 figure salary.
PM would allow you to focus and specialize while still having the ability to go into Consulting if you don’t like it. But if you go into consulting you could be in a project that’s earning you income but not building those skills toward a career you want to grow into.
Thanks all! I have a few MBB interviews lined up as well as PM ones too. Wanted to strategize what I’d do if I got MBB.
Ah the classic “count your chickens before they hatch” strategy
PM 100%
Go to FAANG if you want a life outside work
I would take the PM path if that's the area you want to focus on. Joining MBB does not improve your chances of landing a PM exit at all
