Yep. And I can tell you it’s not like that. The systems are far too disjointed. Ogilvy has no freaking idea what AKQA or Grey or myriad other WPP shops are doing. Same with all the others. Maybe a small HC might? But even then. HR turns over every 2-3 years. There’s just no system that exists that links the HR department of all HC’s together. Also would be a legal violation and huge risk to share confidential employee info. The only time I EVER spoke to another person in another agency was when a person at RGA wanted to come to The Martin Agency (IPG) and we had to confirm their salary. Inter-HC hires are often checked with home agency because of the non solicitation clause. RGA can’t poach from Huge TMA McCann etc. If a candidate wants to move jobs within a HC, we have to verify their salary and they cannot get a significant raise. I think it was capped at 10% when I worked at TMA. That was awhile ago though. In short. No, there is no permanent black mark unless it was something highly illegal (rape, embezzlement, bribery) and there was a legal case. Even then, look how many serial sexual predators are fired and rehired.

The only thing that gets dicey with holding companies is if you're currently at an agency and you're looking for a new gig at a different agency under the same holding company. They can get squirrely about that. But beyond that, they are all pretty separate entities. Unless you did something REALLY bad, there's no blacklist.

we have a memo that says we can’t poach from another agency in the network but they are free to apply on their own.

No. Holding company agencies don't talk to each other nearly as often as they pretend they do. Even network age does, from country to country, rarely ever talk, and almost never about staff. However, if you're applying at BBDO NY and they see you worked at BBDO Toronto, they can easily reach out and ask what you were like. They probably even know people at each agency to get non-HR approved answers.


Ha I was blacklisted by an agency who’s HR trash talked me to another agency (same holding company) in town and stopped an offer that was in progress. I’m sure it was off record since everyone knows everyone and Miami is an unethical hell hole. 🤷🏽

I always heard the holding company do not hire list was serious and permanent. I was let go for performance a decade ago and have avoided applying for jobs from that HC since then. Any recruiters on here that can weigh on?


I heard let go / laid off no, but if you were fired even if for "performance reasons" your name does get flagged

Has anyone been in a situation (apartment / condo) where they had a shared wall with a smoking permitted-unit where there was a regular smoker - did anyone speak to your doctor / receive medical advice about whether the secondhand smoke exposure would be enough to potentially cause medical issues? If I pass the hiring committee, what happens if my expected salary and bonus greatly exceed the posted “floor” salary? I tried to get in front of this, but recruiting department has been slow to talk shop while I progressed through interview milestones.


I have minor generalized anxiety. Lately, I’ve had worse anxiety than normal, and as a result, I’m taking my second mental health day in a row. Hi everyone! I recently accepted a new job with a Big 4 and am also newly engaged. Has anyone heard of re-doing an interview round? I got my on-site interviews’ feedback today, and did well in all but 1 round.
