If you work at a Big 4 L&E firm, what are your biggest gripes of the firm?

No 401k or HSA matching. Maybe that's more common now. But both the prior smaller firms I came from matched 3-5% on 401k and contributed 2K/year towards HSA. That's a big chunk of missing money over the years.

like

OD has HSA 1K contribution, but no 401 K

Just super busy and pay is pretty good but it’s not “market”. That being said, it would be ludicrous to expect Cravath level pay for the rates we bill out at. Honestly, just more staffing to relieve pressure would be great. If you are looking for something message me!

FP puts profit shares into your 401k. I hate EPLI work.

I just hate the absolute bars on certain items. Like no research, no internal conferences, no reviewing files, etc. That's all stuff I absolutely must do sometimes in order to advance the case. So you're basically telling me you expect me to perform work for you, that must be done on this case, for free?

Hey, Chi. First time caller.

So I'm considering a switch from law to consulting, and noticed EY has started posting salary ranges for positions. All the mid- to senior-level jobs I'm looking at are in the $95k to $150k range. Is that right? True for all the big 4? Seems super low. I guess I never thought about it before but how exactly do you folks get paid?

Is it possible to land a financial analyst position with only 6 months of experience in audit? I tried to stick it out w/ B4 but I don’t think I can do it anymore. I’m interested in duties like budgeting/forecasting, but haven’t come across very many entry level positions. I’m mostly seeing entry level jobs that are called “financial analyst” but include duties like JE/reconciliations. I don’t have SQL/Tableau experience either... so not sure if I just need more experience in a diff role first?

How do I get into consulting? I’ve literally gotten referrals for 3/4 B4 companies and still can’t get in. Does anyone have any advice?

I was on a partner/manager call today and they were discussing the “high” turnover at the senior and experienced associate level. What was shocking is that while ours is about double normal, evidently we are 3 out of 4 in turnover meaning 2 of the Big 4 are even higher.

I’m an L&E associate entering my 5th year at a mid-sized regional law firm (approx. 400 attorneys). Barred in PA/NJ. Billed 2100 last year but my requirement is 1950. Should I try to lateral into BigLaw or should I try to go in house? Are either of those realistic options for me? I seem to be doing a significant amount of municipal law too, which is not what I expected or wanted at all. I want a life but would also hate to take a pay cut. Interested in L&E. Advice?
