If your birthday falls on a weekday, do you take PTO or work? I’ve seen a fair amount of people take PTO on birthdays (I have not done this). Just curious what others do!

I don’t care too much about my birthday but I’ll usually use it as an excuse to leave early

PTO every time - I struggle to use up my PTO every year almost so it’s a good way to just make sure I’m taking a day for me

like

Always take birthday off

I also struggle to use most of my PTO, I try to take my birthday off to visit family, and the day after to just have a “me day”, it works really well!

Depends on what my plans are. Typically what I'm doing to celebrate doesn't precisely line up with the actual birthday, but that's just me. My wife typically takes hers off bc I make actual plans to get us away somewhere 🤡

PTO for a week

like

PTO for sure, i block off the week every year and then adjust as needed. But always always at least take the day plus days next to the weekend off

I didn’t take PTO on the actual day but I did take it on the Friday of that week as a little treat.

I have a winter birthday. If it were a summer birthday I’d probably PTO the entire week

I treat it like any other working day if its during the week. I’ll grab dinner with family the day of, and then go party with friends on the weekend.

If taking PTO on your birthday makes you happy, do it.

I would not waste my PTO on my birthday

Yes, always!

summer birthday, I always take the whole week!

Working mine today/wish I wasn’t! Taking PTO next week instead.

It’s my birthday too! Happy birthday, birthday twin!

like

I take PTO on all imp days e.g birthday, anniversary, religious festival etc cause otherwise I cannot guarantee getting off work on time and it kills the whole plan for everyone involved including family and friends who make it a point to be there

Hello All, Looking to learn how California employers are capping accrued vacation. Say accruals increase with years of service and at 10 years an employee accrues 4 weeks per year, versus at 1 year an employee accrues 2 weeks per year. What is the cap for the 1 year (2 weeks) versus the 10 year (4 weeks)? For example, do you cap at 1.5x across the board? Or, does the accrual cap change?

When you’re planning for PTO, do you ask your managers if it’ll be okay to take time off those dates or do you just give them kind of a heads up?

Do any of you at EY ever have issues actually taking your vacation? Given we work with people across regions on multiple projects at once, who do you ask for approval for longer vacations? I feel like I usually just add it in ARMS and tell people I won’t be there X days. Rarely do I ever get pushback (but rarely do I ever take all my vacation days)

Hi everyone! I recently accepted a new job with a Big 4 and am also newly engaged. I have a couple of concerns… the main one being that I may not have enough time off for 2022 to cover taking off for the wedding, honeymoon, and then a couple of other weddings where I’m supposed to be a bridesmaid. Do you think there would be any wiggle room with managers allowing time off, or is it generally pretty strict? (Continued in comments)

Joining Strategy&/PwC soon but have a pre planned vacation. Recruiter had mentioned that it shouldn't be a problem and we can talk as we get closer to joining date to finalize. Has anyone been in the situation before and what do you recommend I do? I'm worried that once onboarded, I won't get my vacation approved
