If your coworker asked you to cover a task while they were on vacation and asked to keep it between you and them, what would you do?

Help them out. Always better to be owed a favor

But why the "keep it between me and you" ? I don't get why they need cover? Is it not chargeable time? Obvo, you wld be charging the time... I don't get this. Are they on a PIP?

like

Are they a close friend? If not then keep that shit transparent with the team.

like

Get over it. Call in the favor when you need it.

like

I would do the work and then email the person and the manager when it’s doen

likefunny

My senior has had me do shit like that a few times. I love it because now he know he can trust me and we’ve developed a “I scratch your back you scratch mine” rapport and it’s mutually beneficial

like

Raise your concern in a group setting with everyone regarding transparency and vacation. It takes 5 seconds to send out an email ahead of time letting your team know your vacation dates. I’d still cover the task for that person though. If you don’t, it’ll look bad on you unfortunately as we are all “team players"

like

Why is vacation a secret? This coworker is asking you to do the work and have the billing reflected on their time card even though they are on vacation, is that what you are trying to convey?

like

Agreed, but it’s not the first (or second or third) time. My issue isn’t the help. It’s the lack of transparency

like

If it’s shady or unethical, no. If it’s just some BS they dropped the ball on- sure. Why not?

like

Help em out. Busy szn is pretty much over and it can’t be that bad. Sometimes these things come full circle.

like

What comes around goes around

like

Ya no... I agree the lack of transparency isn't cool and they are covering their ass. If you think they are genuine maybe let it go but if you think they are taking advantage then no. Also, I think they should allow you to receive recognition too. Are they above you in level?

like

Don’t be lame. Stfu

I used to play pro football. A colleague would to have me tell white lies when he would go missing for a day or two. When the police started questioning me I had to fess up and tell them that Aaron hernandez was not really at practice. I guess the moral of the story is you never really know "the why" until it's too late.

like

As long as you aren’t working extra time to cover their vacation. If you’re already hitting 70 hours with your own tasks...ask them to ask someone else/their manager

Ya I’m definitely not doin someone’s work for them. It can go bad in 2 ways; if you mess it up ur friend will be pissed at u. if the supervisor tries to contact them to discuss it and they have no idea what went on, they probably will be called out anyway.

With that said, if it’s some small stupid task then sure why not.

Ain’t no secrets bih...they paying me tho

Whyskey pay out

It's never fully transparent since the time billed will be reviewed by the billers

Would you feel comfortable telling HR that your service line’s culture sucks and name the individuals who cause it? Or is a better approach saying it’s the leadership in general creating a negative and toxic culture? How effective are these conversations really? Trying to assess if there’s any point in bringing this up. Obviously HR works for the company and an employee sharing their thoughts on the unsupportive, cold leaders could bite me in the long run.

I am currently at a firm and received an in-house offer. Aside from main items like comp and big ticket benefits like PTO/health insurance/401k, what other items do I need to think about discussing/negotiating? For example, fees to keep bar licensure, professional association fees, CLEs, etc. I feel like there is so much on that end I currently take for granted being covered at my firm. Anything else I should consider?

When submitting resignation do you pro rate the number of holiday days you would have accrued? I have leave booked around time of resignation (of which 5 days is PY roll over) so wondering if I can add an additional 2 days leave to the date from which I'm counting back 30 days from ie 20 days normal notice 5 days PTO (starts Thursday) puts me 27 days post submitting notice (wed). Could I add 27/365x 25 day holiday allowance = 2 extra days of leave I can add.

Hello!

I finished my final round(s) for a TAM position at
Google (GCP) last week and was told by my recruiter that my feedback was great and that I made a solid impression on the team and am "firmly in the running". I was supposed to hear back this week (according to the recruiter) but he just told me that it's still in the process and that I'll have to wait for another week or so.

Is this common at Google ? I have heard they are notorious for being really slow with their hiring process.

Option 1:
- $175k lot located on very busy street but across the street from new $700k townhomes and restaurants

Option 2:
- $250k 3 bed/1 bath fixer upper located at end of dead end street, houses on street all fixer uppers, located down the street from Option 1 (so also near new builds and restaurants)
