Any one familiar with comp for a Portfolio Associate roll at PIMCO on their mortgage backed securities team? I’m looking at an offer and want make sure I’m in line with the average comp for the company and industry. Only 4 months of experience and offer is 98k w/ 10-20% bonus plus 15k relo/ sign on. Looking at Glassdoor, bonuses seem higher than quoted by the hiring manager. (No written offer yet they say they’re still working on it)

You don’t need to convince Trumps base. You need to convince the small constituency of moderate Republicans (I.e real conservatives) that vote for Trump. Not too many of those left, but I bet they’re more aligned with Romney than Trump and could be convinced to vote independent, not at all, or dare I say, democratic.
I mean I guess. Trump still has a 90% approval rating among Republicans, so I’m not super convinced that there’s a big group of anti-Trump Republicans worth getting. If we’re talking tactics, better to focus on getting out the huge latent vote among all the people who historically haven’t voted because the deck is purposely stacked against them.
Oh and btw, Romney’s no moderate. He tried to go to the right of Trump on *immigration* just a few months ago.
But that wasn’t really my point here. My point was just that people won’t care that Romney is a Republican. Anyone who criticizes Trump is automatically a bad guy, regardless of party. That’s just how demagoguery works: it’s not about policy––it’s about “good guys" vs. “bad guys.”
They like Trump because of their identity politics––who he is and what he says about their identity. They don’t care about the rest.
It’s everywhere. Macron is not great at all, look at Paris. Justin T can say the right things and looks presidential. Is he really that great? Angela Merkel sounds good, but she makes the right policy decisions ? Trump is the fire brand , and he says stupid things to dig himself in. Hence the spotlight.
The real issue here is not just getting away from principle based politics but policy based politics.
D OP: Can you provide some further details on your statement "[Romney]...tried to go to the right of Trump on immigration just a few months ago."
Also, I don't think Trump even likes DACA but was agreeing to it as a bargaining chip to the Democrats for wall funding. Which they completely rejected.
