If your MD invites the team to his house for a BBQ, is it ok to bring him a bottle of champagne as a gift? Should it be chilled?

Nice of you to bring gifts…went to several bbq at partners house already and nobody brought anything lol

Would recommend another consumable. I think people, especially partners, sometimes have VERY specific taste in wine and champagne. Think a very nice dessert (pie, olive oil cake, etc.) - just my personal preference tho!

like

Ya why not. Either is fine - he definitely will have a drink cooler of sorts.

Just bring wine

Wow you two are boring. Never had good champers on a Wednesday?

funny

Flowers are also nice and appreciated by the woman of the house.

like

I would go full French style and bring cheese and macaroon along with the champagne

I'm a cashier. We just got a new manager, and she's making things really hard for us. She starts work at 4:30am and leaves around 2:30pm, but she still expects us to stay until 6pm and work on the weekends! She gives us really long shifts and doesn't give us much time for breaks. And when we ask her about it, she gets mad.

I'm worried that if I speak up, she'll make my life even harder. I don't want to lose my job because of this—do you guys have any advice?

⚠️Toxicity Alert ⚠️

My previous manager would track us by hours daily, made a fuss everytime anything stretched and guilt us for that and the unplanned leave too unless it was COVID. Hinted him a lot of time, this is problematic but apparently he considered it "standard practice for agile".

Now 8/10 teammates have switched within < 1 year of project start (6-7 months with him) which tbh had good work in our opinion and even team was fun to work with even though none of us ever met in person.
