I taught my own children as well as all their friends. It was fine. Everyone understood that at school I was “Mrs” and at home I was “…”. I did have another teacher help me grade my own children’s work because I wanted to make sure I was being fair. She said I was being too hard, so it was good to have a check. It only gets rough if you let folks blur boundaries. With some kids I had to just say—“Remember, at school it has to be a little different. It has to be professional.”

Same with me. I let them know home me us different. It was fine.

I was uncomfortable driving my son’s friends around when they were elementary age. Even having them over to spend the night. I never minded teaching them. I just didn’t want anything bad to happen on my watch and then the parent gets mad, comes back at my job, etc. Maybe I was paranoid. Now that his friends aren’t at my school, I don’t mind at all. But now I have to make an effort to get to know his friends as I don’t know them.

I have/have had both of my kids at my school, and a few nieces & nephews (& many of my kid's friends) in class. It's definitely a bit difficult to assert boundaries sometimes and discipline them seriously, but I've gotten better at it. I LOVE having my kids here - they'll come by between classes, during lunch, and on free periods, always a nice surprise to brighten my day :) They definitely get a bit of special treatment from others I can't deny that, but overall they are very well behaved and get good grades so its not anything crazy. Alternatively, there are some teachers who have VERY high expectations of them & would negatively treat them differently. There was a teacher when my son was in school who would drag him to my classroom every time he forgot his textbook to notify me. I finally had enough & told her that if she wouldn't show up at a parent's door every time a kid did something minor like that she shouldn't be showing up at mine, give him whatever consequence everyone else in class gets when they do that lol.

Both of mine are graduated and I miss them like crazy (I had them 10-12 in high school and I'm the librarian so they were with me a lot). Mine did sports and I was obviously friends with their coaches. It was weird having kids over but I was careful to behave when they were around. One of the hard parts for me was dealing with kids who were mean to mine - I had to remember they were students and I had to treat them with the same kindness and respect I treat all of my kids but on the inside I was still pretty mad at them for whatever they had done to my kid! Luckily this was not a common problem but it was my biggest challenge.

Salary c$60k plus 10% bonus and recruitment fee for each direct and referral placement you make (which could add c$30k+ to earnings) we have a great selection of company benefits. Is this package attractive? There’s great opportunity for career development and the company is growing so lots of new roles. We are international too!
