If you’re lower on the totem pole and not necessary aligned to an industry or COE yet, would there be more flexibility in being able to move from an implementation project to s strategy project?

Also you realize that every implementation project has strategy too right?

I am however under Deloitte digital and a part of netsuite but have not necessarily been “claimed” by a partner

What is being claimed by a partner mean?

They being you under their COCE

Dd1 I realize that but I meant a project that is more pure strategy

Is that a thing? I’m a SC and haven’t been claimed by a partner and have never heard of this till now

Also you realize why this reorg is happening right? Tech especially DD has taken so much of that strategy work away from S&O

OP you must be very junior. Career is what you make it. Find the type of work you want to do and make sure your network knows it. Very little is it ever as clear cut as strategy v implementation.

More specifically I’m try to see if as long as another person wants to bring me onto their project, I can roll myself off my current one. It’s only been a month and A half on my current project

Again should be fine unless you made a specific commitment.

@Op yes if someone wants to bring you on you can join that project but be wary of burning bridges.

Also 1 1/2 months and you already want to jump? What is this “pure” strategy project you want to be on?

So no need to get the green light from my resource manager or partner on current project?

@Op you 1000% do need to get the green light. Folks can’t just role off whenever they like. Is this another DD project or S&O?

S&O

Talk to your project management and your counselor. You will probably burn bridges and to be honest with you will be making decks and PMO not whatever you think “pure” strategy is

DD1, I think you may be confused about strategy vs a DD project/implementation aligning to a clients strategic priorities. Digital strategy and corporate strategy are two different animals.
OP, if you have a strong interest in strategy roles, your best bet is to get staffed on a true strategy project. Reach out to your undergrad network of individuals that have strong strategy backgrounds. Give a project a try and see if it is a good fit. If things click and you perform, you will always have more opportunities to work with your new network. Also think about the GSAP, you will quickly recognize that true strategy work will require a deeper background that you will most likely only get from and MBA program.

@D2 nope I get what they want, they want pure strategy. But he or she can’t just roll them self off and I hate to say it but a non service line analyst will probably end up doing PMO related work unless they have a network in S&O

I studied computer science in school but I didn’t do well due to life coming in the way. I got poor grades but ultimately finished my degree without any internship experience.

After three months of job search, I started for 45K at a construction company as a Jr App Support. After a year I shifted in to QA for 65k and now after a year of QA, I have finally gotten a position as a software engineer for 78K base.

The imposter syndrome is finally gone!

Hang in there, hard work pays off.
