If you’re on a local project in the burbs of your city would you opt to stay in a hotel 2-3 nights a week... or would you commute 1.5+ hours (one way) to/from home?

Hotel for sure. 3 hours of commute each day is brutal. That’s like 3-6 episodes of Netflix loss

likefunny

Hotel. That commute gets real old, real quick. Also status

I have SO no kids, would take hotel. All I do is work during the week anyways. If I wasnt busy maybe I'd go home

Definitely hotel. I’m trying to get off my local project cause I hate being local

Hotel for sure. Did the whole 1.5 hour commute thing, would never advise anyone to endure that pain. If you really want you can leverage the commute one week out of the month but definitely do a hotel for a majority of the time. It’s better for your overall mental health and work life balance in the long run.

I've done 50 minutes each way and that sucked. Hotel

Hotel points!

Depends, not a far drive but you will have to get up early. What do you value more, your own bed or having a close to commute?

Similar situation right now but the morning commute is closer to 50 mins (with no traffic), evening an hour+. As much as I’d like to sleep in a bit more and get hotel points, I like being at home more. My manager lets me wfh one day a week which is nice! I don’t hate the drive as much as I hate wasting time in the car when I could be at the gym or doing work!

Hotel all the way. So much wasted time in traffic. And you are tired and cranky before getting in office. Deal with more stress when going home. If time is rush hour driven, Only other option imo is show up late and stay late, or get in early and leave early. Have to work with Project team on that. Even then, you never really get to leave early when you try, and no one cares that you came early :p

Here's a situation. I have been selected to join as a manager at a big four entity. While the HR seems to be fine with the hike and the overall package, the senior/management in the team/project seems to be unhappy with the same. Not sure if the offer might go ahead with a lower package or might not go through at all. The general understanding is that the HR takes a call on packages. Is it different at the big four?

What is it about law that glorifies morning people so much? I am NOT one and wfh has been so great for me in terms of being able to set my own schedule, but now that we’re starting to go back to the office I’ve noticed some pointed comments about people not being in by 8am. I bill as much (generally more) than other associates, so why does it matter if I start at 9 and work late?? I’m finding it hard to go back to the arbitrary-feeling 8am office start when I know I’m not going to be productive.
