We need more teachers down here in AZ! If you're in the area, or moving to the area, or even thinking about moving to the area (😅) feel free to check some of these out and apply. I would recommend going through the schools website, but there are multiple schools hiring! Cannot provide referrals, can provide recommendations for a good place to get a drink to celebrate your new job.

It is context specific for me. If I’m in an outdoor space where there’s practically no one and I’m confident no one will be within 6 ft of me, I take off my mask. All other situations, I wear one - walking on the sidewalk, going to a store etc
I like unobstructed breathing and am not worried about Coronavirus
Manager 1 - what’s the source of this graphic? I’ve seen it going around but can’t tell if it’s based on data or just illustrative.
It seems to be compared to an assumption that two people talking in close range without masks may = 100% transmission, which I have not heard. I have heard consensus around the principles expressed by this, but I expect that the %s shown are VERY likely to be misleading. If really just both people wearing masks drops the probability of transmission to 1.5% (similar to the failure rate of say, condoms!) this means that we can basically interact normally with one another as long as we wear masks.... but I really, really doubt it is THAT effective of an intervention. If it is, fantastic!!
That being said, in public health “harm reduction” doesn’t have to be 100% perfect! If there’s any reduction in transmission at all, we should be wearing masks!
Bc they literally told us NOT to wear them for MONTHS bc they don’t do anything
The recommendation changed for two reasons
1) masks were in super low supply then and medical professionals needed them most
2) wearing a mask increases complacency and the CDC would rather people social distance and not wear masks than v.v. - doing both is the best option
I only wear it in stores, but not when walking around outside unless it was in like a densely populated area. Not sure if that counts?

Yeah I think this is normal/reasonable

Ikr. Funny how folks decided that the virus is now over.
Hahahaha I saw the protests every single day and less than 1/4 of people were wearing masks.

Because you can’t take away muh freedoms
Yep, support your right to kill other people!
Please refer to this and wear a mask
Notice that is says very low. However, even if you stay in your own home it is not none, it is virtually none. Further apart just reduces risk. The question is what are the percentages used. Very low is 10% and virtually none 0.1%? You are free to choose your risk. You are not free to choose others risk. Wear a mask makes other safer so do it for the others.

M6 - sorry I have to call it out. your example is the edge case. The data shows that most of the infected dont even have to go to the hospital and the virus goes away. The conversation is how many hospitalization is too much. And that is where everyone has a difference in opinion.
also this:
So when can I stop wearing one? Never? Because there is disease everywhere and always will be.
DD1 in case you’ve been living under a rock since December, the entire planet is in the midst of battling a highly infectious and abnormally lethal virus.
You’ll notice that before the virus outbreak became a global pandemic, no one was asking you to wear a mask in daily life... so yes, while there will always be “diseases”, as you so eloquently stated above, the purpose of wearing a mask is to stop the spread of COVID-19, and thus after the virus is contained you will no longer be asked to wear a mask.
The medical community is optimistic that we’ll have a vaccine in about 12 months.
Now, any other big questions about the world you live in that you’d like me to explain to you?
I live in a remote area and I was already a hermit before Rona....I bring a mask with me in case a store requires it or if I end up around many sick or elderly. Herd immunity is the only way out and that unfortunately involves people contracting the rona.

Well I’m not tryna risk dying so I’ll stay inside for 3 years no problem
Bc I don’t believe that the government should tell us what to do with our bodies. I don’t want to blur the lines of what they can and cannot have control. All that being said, I do wear a mask when in public indoor places but don’t believe we should just bow to the governors on any issue who have their own agendas. We should not be sheep
Good on M4 to own up to it
I’m also not adding to the discussion because I wear a mask in public. But it is so “interesting” to me that so many of the people refusing to wear masks because of freedom / the government can’t control me are often the same people who turn around and want the government to control others’ marriages, reproductive health, etc.

Lol, y’all may not like it but the “don’t tread on me” folks are the biggest proponents of not having masks and trampling others rights as it suits their own views.
I wear a mask everywhere, so not adding to that piece of the discussion; rather, to the point on “they told us not to wear masks earlier / that they weren’t effective” ... news flash - they lied.
There was a risk of a mask shortage, and to stop the general population from panic buying, they had to make this claim and ensure medical staff got first dibs at the masks.
Whether this was the right thing to do ... well, I’ll let you decide 😉 But yeah, this is why there’s a disconnect between the initial and subsequent messaging.
K5: I never trust what anyone says on face value - this is where critical thinking comes into play. You have to always read between the lines, think about the factors at play for the speaker, and really be honest with yourself about his or her motivations.
It’s the same for when (some) employers during this COVID-19 period said “there won’t be layoffs, i promise” or “oh, your bonuses / raises are safe still, don’t worry” ... inherently I assume that’s all noise, and that eventually some folks will be laid off / there will probably be compensation impact, so I’m prepared for the worst (e.g., resume and LinkedIn updated, more cash / liquid assets stocked up).
You can’t just have blind faith in anyone, and yes, this is agnostic of political party.
Fall in line because the “experts” say so. The same experts whose advice has cost the UK 40-50k deaths - pretty sure the bottom quartile on per capita deaths and on mortality (it is quite difficult to get the UK numbers these days on BBC - can’t be arsed to search elsewhere). The same experts who predicted deaths numbers in the UK that would need to be counted in millions. This seems to be such a new thing that your (educated) guess is going to be as good as the expert advice (learnt this from DDs). Every expert wants to give a grimer picture because that is the only way to get attention. Who has ever asked a question to an epidemiologist in the past - it’s their time in the limelight and they will come with their worst predictions to hit the headlines.
Use your judgement and please don’t judge those who wear them or those who don’t. If you are in the high risk category then just stay away as much as possible until this thing goes away - and go away it will.
Protiviti1 - people like you are why we can’t have nice things.
Because they want everyone to see their dickfaces!
It’s really unfortunate that Americans seem to have adopted the framework of “let’s do as little as possible to muddle through this as long as public officials provide an opening for selfish choices we’re all good here”. That said it’s the American MO for everything these days.

To everyone opting out of wearing a mask and or social distancing because of their “right to do so,” please sign a waiver that says you reject all medical treatment related to any and all symptoms associated with Covid.
If you don’t believe it’s an issue, make sure you’re not a drain on our services and facilities in any way.
I wear a mask if I’m going indoors where there are other people there, as long as they are all wearing masks. Therefore, I don’t go to places if the store’s policy isn’t to require a mask. Outdoors I don’t wear one, but I don’t go into crowded outdoor spots – I’m play a lot of golf, and I don’t wear one then as I’m not close to anyone else. If you are going to public and are going to be indoors with others, you should wear a mask. The infringement of your rights to not wear one gets trumped by someone else’s rights not to have you give them a potentially serious disease, get over it.
