If you're scheduled for next level training (staff 1 -> staff 2) does that mean you've been promoted? Is there an informal way to know if you haven't been promoted prior to official promotion date?

Staff 1 -> staff 2 is not a promo.

like

Basically the informal way to know you may not be advancing is if you have been put on a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP). This is a good indicator that there is a 50/50 chance you're getting held back

like

Counseled out means you get talked into quitting?

like

Still struggling to understand what you could have done to not advance...staff 1 year isn't rocket science, some would actually call it the glory days because expectations are so low

like

You can get an idea from your coach.

like

People actually get held back...??

like

@EY3 the polite term is 'counseled out'

like

No, they get held back before they get counseled out. It is not synonymous

like

It happens sometimes ey3, stop harping about it. Sometimes it just doesn't click yet and they need more time to absorb. The counselor had to write up the PIP, so that probably hasn't happened yet. I personally have to write a PIP for one of my staff 1 counselees that's getting held back, but haven't done it yet. They're due by the time the final rating is communicated in mid-July.

like

Sure but you know what I mean

No it doesn't mean you've been promoted. They schedule everyone for trainings assuming you are going to the next level. If you're not going to be a staff 2, they let you know

They know you look at that stuff. They won't move you out of the training until it's been communicated that you've been held back.

Yeah, it's really giving you the opportunity to come to the conclusion that you're not going to make it before you're fired

Usually a PIP and your rating/progression talk all happens the same time....so not sure if ⬆️ is accurate.

What happens if they told you weren't advancing but didn't mention a PIP yet?

I am project manager in clinical research industry (CRO). After earning PhD, I gave up my science dream to take a more stable job. After slowly climbing the ladders, I feel like I finally got a seat at the table. Half the days I like the hustle, but now I miss being creative. I want to take more brainstorming, decision making responsibilities but I don’t see that in the career path for PM. Career path usually goes like this- Sr PM, Director l, Sr Director, and so on. But all do same work.

Hey! My company is giving me a new title (previously: Senior PMM, new: Global Lead of product marketing). The roles are very similar with no material change of responsibilities. it’s the result of a re-org. Also, I’ve been deemed a high performer and approaching my 1 yr review.

In any case, as I’m waiting on the official letter, they have been very vague that they’re will be a compensation increase. In fact, this hasn’t been presented as a promotion. How would you approach this conversation?

Thoughts on becoming a "Growth & New Initiatives PM"?

I was a regular PM managing my own vertical and now have the opportunity for a new role in the org. No promo or cash related, just jurisdiction wise.

I'd be focusing on:
For old product-
-Free Trial
-automation
For new product-
-Building out from scratch
-UI/UX related user feedback
-sales and marketing focus
-use cases and features

Is this a good move career wise? Love being a PM and looking to grow.

Have never lived here before so not sure if this is normal or not? Is the covid rental discount that extreme and prices are usually closer to the monthly mortgage amount?
