This is why: https://apple.news/AAg9zLIVzRDe-_QMma8nd0A
This goes back to the original reason why someone would social distance and wear a mask before there were vaccines: because you didn’t know what those around you did or were doing.
Everything in hindsight is pointing to CDC being premature and making mistakes in their guidance. It’s fine if folks want to be those early adopters, but always a risk to that as many people are finding out.
Goes to show that some people are fine with getting covid as long as they don’t get severely sick or die. Others are trying to not get Covid at all.
“In that outbreak, vaccinated and unvaccinated people had nearly the same amount of virus recovered from test samples, indicating that vaccinated people are just as contagious as unvaccinated people when it comes to the delta variant.
With previous strains, vaccinated people who became infected with the coronavirus had much lower levels of virus, meaning they were less contagious.
That may now have now changed.”
I am vaccinated and it does change my perspective a lot.
I’m in a demographic category that was fairly low risk anyway but the vaccine does help reassure me that it’s negligible at a personal level.
I also worry about spreading it to others, but again mostly about the unvaccinated and vulnerable. I know that in my family and friend group, the overwhelming majority are vaccinated with the only significant exceptions being kids under 12, and that kids are also less susceptible anyway. So those risks are also quite low, if not zero. I respect if friends with kids choose not to socialize, or choose to stick to outdoors only or keep masks on, and I’m happy to do the same when we’re together out of respect. But I no longer feel an obligation to keep social distancing, avoid handshakes and hugs, etc.
I understand that for some people, Delta is making them rethink the whole thing. I am concerned about it, but I’m not there. Though breakthrough cases do happen, they are still rare enough that I think we have enough tools between vaccines, masks and ventilation, and we shouldn’t shut things down again.
Because your unvaccinated a** is dragging this whole thing out. I want things to get back to normal already, don’t you? I’m tired of this as much as you are. If everyone got vaccinated, we could go back to normal. But no, your “freedom” ironically is preventing the rest of us from having the freedom of living a normal life again. So yeah, I’m gonna be a little mean to antivaxxers in person.
No one is talking about two things: antibody dependent enhancement, and leaky vaccines like these driving increasingly deadly virulent strains - please read about Marek's disease.
My friends all just got COVID and they all have the vaccine. Doesn’t stop you from getting it.
I’ve heard of three breakthrough cases just in my agency in three weeks so feels more common than “extremely rare”
Also this thread is confusing and a waste of time. I can’t believe I read it.
Because I have an infant who spent his first month of life in the NICU trying to breathe and he can’t get the vaccine. So if your unvaccinated self gives my vaccinated self Covid and then I bring it home to my kid, the consequences are kind of a big deal.
Why don’t we ask these anti vaxxers to move out and isolate themselves in a commune, instead of them telling other people to move?
Used to be called quarantine - this is permanent quarantine and it is their choice. They should be happy. This should be the norm for all those who put public safety at risk.
Unvaccinated people are derailing our goal.
Not being vaccinated means you are a breading ground for mutations of the virus. This causes new strains and then our vaccinations are no longer protecting us. The bigger picture is that I'm doing my part to get vaccinated just so you can undo it.
This is a leaky vaccine, look up Marek's disease to see what is happening. The spike pf increases happened before vaccines had wider distribution and Delta existed prior to large numbers having it.
Because unvaccinated people are a helluva more likely to get me sick or worse, cause me to be asymptomatic and carry the virus and then get my family members who are little kids (and who couldn't get vaccinated) sick. It boggles my mind how people seem to not comprehend that this decision doesn't just impact themselves.
Pretty much what WC1 & PWC5 said for me. I'm vaccinated but still wear masks when in public indoors and outdoors if crowded. I visit family members now who are also vaccinated but the little kids there aren't, also elders who are higher risks. I'll have a lesser chance of catching it, but I still don't want to spread it to the vulnerable just cause I'm "invincible" like OP.
because it’s not 100%
new variants..
we still don’t know how long immunity lasts for..
I would rather not bring anything back home
if you don’t care about yourself.. i don’t want you around me. 🙃

SC1, if the only thing you took away from my little story was peanut butter, then the point missed you. Think of anything objectionable that you could have about you and pass on to other people. My first idea involved a different objectionable material, but I decided to keep it a little cleaner.
I have had the virus. My opinion is that I am better off with these natural antibodies. There is no point to get the vaccine because it won’t do anything extra in preventing the delta variant. The vaccine is like the masks of last summer. False sense of security. In reality it doesn’t stop the actual case number.
And you work at pwc? And you have such a strong opinion on how vaccines and immunity works. SMH

Lol @SC1
1. Because I'm not a selfish dick and I care about the people around me who might be immunocompromised or who otherwise cannot get the vaccine.
2. Because vaccines are not 100% effective. Or are you the kind of genius who is gobsmacked when you/your gf gets pregnant because "it's impossible, we were using protection!!"
3. Because the longer this pandemic keeps going thanks to spread, the bigger the chance of the virus mutating to the point where vaccines will not be effective at all.
Like... none of this is rocket science. I probably shouldn't have even bothered to respond because this question has been asked and answered SO many times already I have a hard time believing that anyone asking it at this stage is asking in good faith.
I’ve resigned to the fact that we really need to revisit our science curriculum as a country. We’ve been too tolerant of this kind of stupidity for too long

My body my choice? So if I chose to use my body’s arms to strangle someone, you’re good with that? People who choose to not get the vaccine put everyone else at risk. This isn’t going away until everyone who can get vaccinated is vaccinated.

Lets see...maybe the way we farm raise animals may have something to do with how the flu jumps from human to livestock and back again?
There have been less than 400 deaths in the US in people under 18. 100% of those had co-morbidities with most having leukemia. Please get to know the data before you spread fear and hatred. This virus presents virtually no danger for young people.
D4 - I am also sick of this virus and encourage folks to get vaccinated. I’m also pragmatic enough to realize that we’re going to have to learn to live with this just like we live with HIV, AIDS, and the seasonal flu. The sooner all the hall monitors realize that, the better.
Oh good I was worried we wouldn’t have this exact same debate today that we’ve been having every single day for the past 4 months 💆🏻♀️

It’s time to remove insurance coverage for medical treatment for those unvaccinated but not immunocompromised. Go ahead, take the risk despite having a legitimate way out of this mess. But you also need to be accountable for the full risk that you’re taking on and also not forcing responsible folks to pick up the tab on medical bills
It’s also time to start putting restrictions on travel, school, etc for unvaccinated folks. You do not have the “freedom” to go around and infect others. You have a choice to be unvaccinated. Other people do not have a choice of avoiding you spreading something to them
PO1-Do you know what the fed govt pays for an adverse effect of a Polio vaccine? Look into it and compare it to $0.00.
Because I have a 9 month old son
Because as someone who is vaccinated you can:
1) still get COVID again
2) still get COVID and spread it to other vaccinated or unvaccinated folks
3) get sick yourself (due to the rise in virus mutations
4) put other high rush populations or immunocompromised folks at risk due to the variants
We have to understand that the vaccine doesn’t mean that you won’t get COVID or get sick, it’s just your reaction will not be as severe as it would have been.
PwC 2 I totally agree with you but you have to understand that as of yesterday, the CDC was pretty adamant and clear in its guidance that the vaccinated was very unlikely to get Covid (depending on your shot) and even more unlikely to pass it on to others.
As in their guidance as of a few weeks ago was that you can be in the office without masks with other unvaccinated people!
Talk about placing wrong bets on “look at the science” data.
Why are people blaming unvaxxed Americans for the Delta variant when it originated in India?? lmaooo

Omg can someone point me to a confirmed source that says the virus is only mutating unvaccinated people? Let’s stop spreading this assumption. Delta came from India where 7% of people are vaccinated, yet they have had a decline in covid cases.
My 4 month old baby can get it cause he’s NOT vaccinated. So the whole “but I’m vaccinated” logic stops short of thinking about people who want to be but can’t be vaccinated.
C2 you’re right I misspoke - not pass the vaccine but passing antibodies. Very different!
I’m vaccinated, and would prefer others are too, to the extent they can. But I’m also happy to hang out with folks who aren’t vaccinated as based on clinical trials I’m very well protected.
Besides getting vaccinated, I’d also prefer if folks didn’t go crazy. For example, by wanting to force an experimental vaccine on others, or by thinking that the use of protective masks in workplaces is somehow a virtuous thing and a solution to this pandemic while at the same time being fine with those masks being made out of whatever cloth happens to be in fashion and not out of filter materials certified for protecting against pathogens.
CD3: Exactly.
SO over all of this. I’ve had covid and am vaxxed and I’m “high risk” having been on a vent and having had lung surgery 2 years ago. I got through covid just fine. I’m f%^*#}{ done wearing a mask. They’ll keep everyone they can following them like sheep as long as they can. Be a free thinker and a lion instead.
I don’t mind being a sheep if it means protecting my kids who can’t get vaccinated.
Because these assholes are the reason why this isn’t over yet. Make it so burdensome for these folks to live their lives that their only option is to go get vaccinated!
MK1. You’re not wrong but you can also slice and dice it by Democrat vs Republican. So no need to perpetuate the hate and targeting people (which was the point of my original post).
